Toyota is not only one of the most popular automakers in the world, but it’s also an automaker that has a great reputation, especially in terms of Toyota’s reliability. Unsurprisingly, the data backs up that reputation as the Japanese auto giant has the most reliable option in multiple segments. Here’s a look at the three segments a Toyota model is the most reliable option in 2023.

Toyota reliability won in two sedan segments

iSeeCars published its rankings of the most reliable cars in every segment, and Toyota had a good showing. The Avalon dominated the large car segment, receiving a reliability score of 9.8 out of 10. For comparison, the Chevy Impala was in second place and only received a reliability score of 9 out of 10. 

The full-size Toyota sedan is also a decent car that provides drivers with a solid balance of features. It starts at about $37,000, with a 301 hp V6 engine allowing it to get a great fuel economy of 27 mpg combined. That said, the Japanese auto giant killed off the Avalon after the 2022 model year.

Meanwhile, the Prius is another sedan that won a segment as the most reliable hybrid sedan. The Prius was recently redesigned, and unlike the Avalon, it’s still doing well. It received a reliability score of 8.9 out of 10, and the $25,000 hybrid car gets about 57 mpg combined. Another Toyota snagged second place: the Camry Hybrid. So, Toyota did very well overall regarding hybrid sedans.

Toyota reliability was also a winner in terms of SUVs and minivans

The Japanese automaker also won in several SUV and minivan segments. The Highlander Hybrid, for example, dominated the hybrid SUV segment. The $40,000 hybrid SUV received a reliability rating of 9.2 out of 10, that’s much higher than the runner-up’s score of 7.2 out of 10. The Highlander Hybrid also comes with three rows of seats, and its hybrid powertrain allows it to get about 36 mpg combined.

Toyota also did very well in terms of large SUVs. The $86,000 Land Cruiser was in first place, receiving a reliability rating of 9.8 out of 10. Second place in the segment also went to a Toyota model, as the Sequoia received a reliability score of 9.4 out of 10. Both SUVs are solid overall, but they won’t be very fuel efficient as both get about 14 mpg combined.

The minivan segment was a much closer race, but the Sienna ultimately won. It got a reliability score of 8.7 out of 10, which was tied with the runner-up. The $35,000 minivan is a great option,n though, and it even comes standard with a hybrid powertrain that allows it to get 36 mpg combined.

The Toyota Tundra is the most reliable full-size truck

The Tundra was the last Toyota model to win a segment, and it narrowly beat out the Ford F-150. The Tundra received a reliability rating of 8.6 out of 10, while the F-150 received an 8.5 out of 10. The Tundra is a $38,000 full-size pickup truck that was recently redesigned. This redesign gave the car some great powertrains, including a hybrid V6. That hybrid powertrain gives the truck an excellent fuel economy of 22 mpg combined.

Technically speaking, Toyota has even more cars that won a segment as Toyota owns Lexus, and Lexus did well too. The reason why the automaker is so reliable is simple and comes down to maintaining a high standard for quality during every step of the manufacturing process.
