Toyota is putting in work! Since there is a whole new lineup for 2023, it makes sense a new Sequoia would be hitting the dealership too. According to MotorTrend, not much changed for the Toyota Sequoia in 2022. However, the Toyota Tundra and the Sequoia share a lot of parts, which means there will be changes ahead for the 2023 Toyota Sequoia. It will likely share the powertrain and platform as the Tundra, which makes sense giving the sizes of the vehicles.

The 2023 Sequoia will have a shorter wheelbase, one that fits in with other similar SUVs. Given the size of the Sequoia, its competition includes vehicles like the GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Ford Expedition. MotorTrend suggests that a longer-wheelbase version could be in the mix, similar to the Chevy Suburban and Yukon XL.

It is also possible the current V8 goes out the window for a 3.4L twin-turbo V6. This will offer the 2023 Sequoia 389 hp and 479 lb-ft. Since the Tundra is also getting a hybrid powertrain, it would make sense to see that on the Sequoia sometime too. Plus, a Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro model fits in well.

The 2023 Sequoia will use the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform

There are a lot of similarities between the Toyota Sequoia and the Toyota Tundra, according to Car and Driver. Even with all of the semiconductor chip problems, Toyota is full-speed ahead with all of its new trucks and SUVs for the next two years. The SUV and truck will be underpinned by the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-F) body-on-frame platform. Toyota announced the new 300-Series Land Cruiser would also use this new frame.

Unlike the Land Cruiser and the Tundra, the 2023 Sequoia will likely have an independent rear suspension. This is the standard for three-row SUVs. In addition, the interior will probably offer upgrades like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a new JBL sound system. Wireless charging and a new infotainment system are also likely.

Toyota generally builds the Tundra in Texas, so the Sequoia will probably get built alongside that. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia will likely hit the dealership lots late in 2022, shortly after the Tundra.

How big of a seller is this Toyota SUV for the brand?

The Sequoia isn’t that big of a seller in the SUV lineup. According to the official Toyota numbers for 2020, the Sequoia sold 4,733 units throughout the year. In 2021 so far, Toyota has sold 6,111 units in the first half of the year, up 29.1% year over year. In comparison, the Highlander sold 141,301 in 2020 and 207,564 so far in 2021. The Toyota 4Runner sold 86,827 units in 2020 and another 105,475 so far this year.

Toyota hasn’t given any official intel yet, but the information should start rolling out after the Toyota Tundra hype dies down. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia will be an important part of the truck and SUV lineup for the brand.
