Forget what you used to know about the Toyota Sequoia. The new model is a little different. It seeks to be a true off-roading warrior that can serve as the perfect overlanding rig. However, does the 2023 Toyota Sequoia have enough grit?

Is the 2023 Toyota Sequoia good for off-roading?

Yes, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia is an excellent option for off-roading. Even though the Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro weighs up to 6,185 lbs, it can tackle the wild without getting stuck in the mud.

However, it is 79.90 inches wide and 122.0 inches long, so it could be challenging to mauver in narrow areas. Luckily, parking sensors and a 360-degree camera can simplify avoiding obstacles.

The Sequoia TRD Pro is equipped with 18-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires, a locking rear differential, a solid rear axle, 2.5-inch internal Fox bypass shocks, a TRD front anti-roll bar, and thick aluminum skid plates.

It has a 9.1-inch ground clearance, a 23-degree approach angle, and a departure angle of 20 degrees. We’re still looking for the official water fording depth.

While the new Toyota Sequoia can climb over rocks, sling mud around, cross creeks, and cruise sand dunes. It wants to be more than a daily adventurer. That’s why it brought beefy concepts to SEMA.

Which Sequoia off-roading builds went to SEMA?

According to Car Scoops, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia brought plenty of beefy off-roading builds to show off at SEMA. This is the first time that the Sequoia has been redesigned in 15 years, so it’s time to flex its new capabilities.

The Ultimate Overlanding Sequioa gets the party started by being based on the Sequioa Limited TRD Off-Road trim. It adds rock sliders, a rugged front bumper, and a dual swing-out rear door that can hold a spare tire, a Hi-Lift jack, and jerry cans.

It’s outfitted with auxiliary sports lights, a warn winch and CBI Offroad skid plates. The Prinsu roof rack holds an Autohome Airlander Plus tent. Also, it features onboard air, a refrigerator, a freezer, and bronze wheels wrapped in 34-inch Toyota Open Countr M/T tires.

The rig has a 3-inch lift with ToyTec shocks, springs, and coil overs for off-roading. Camburg upper control arms and billet aluminum rear trailing arms complete the package.

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia was transformed into a brand new beast known as the Expedition Overland Sequoia or Simba. It rides on an Icon Vehicle Dynamics 3.0 CDEV suspension and 18-inch wheels with General Grabber X3 tires.

The custom front bumper features a Warn winch. Plus, you’ll notice skid plates, rock sliders, and steel rear bumper with dual swing outs. It can hold a spare tire and recovery boards. Plus, a light bar, rooftop tent, and an iCOM HAM radio are included.

These SEMA concepts prove that the Toyota Sequoia could be more capable than expected. They can be transformed into the ultimate adventuring machines for camping, climbing, and escaping sticky situations.

We hope this means that a new Sequoia model is in the works that takes things a bit further than the TRD Pro. It could rival the Ford Expedition Timberline and Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
