Although we’re not getting the Acura Integra coupe that we all wanted, we are getting a Type S variant soon. That’s right! Acura just officially announced that the 2024 Integra Type S will arrive this Summer. The best part is that it’s going to come with over 300 horsepower, a six-speed manual transmission, and a limited-slip differential. In other words, it will be a more refined Civic Type R.

The Acura Integra and Honda Civic go hand-in-hand

If you’re a Honda enthusiast like we are, then you probably already know that the current Acura Integra is essentially a Honda Civic Si with heated seats, a nicer interior, and an available adaptive suspension. It even has the same turbocharged 1.5-liter engine under the hood pumping out 200 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque.

We had a chance to drive it for a short stint, and it did not disappoint. However, the forthcoming 2024 Acura Integra Type S sounds far more promising. Acura is mum on the details for now (as usual), but the Japanese automaker did mention that the car will be “powered by a high-revving 2.0-liter VTEC turbocharged engine producing over 300 horsepower.”  

That being the case, we can only assume that it will be the same engine that motivates the 2023 Honda Civic Type R, which puts out 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.

Will the Acura Integra Type S come with an upgraded suspension?

Yes. The editors at Jalopnik were able to drive the forthcoming Acura Integra Type S in Japan and reported that the car would come standard with an adaptive suspension. According to their driving impressions, the Integra Type S felt “supple” on the track compared to the current Civic Type R, and its steering felt heavier but had “great feedback.”

That sounds good to us, considering we drove the 2020 Honda Civic Type R and were head over heels for its tight driving dynamics. In our opinion, that car was easily the best-handling front-wheel-drive car we have ever driven. So, it wouldn’t be too surprising if the new version, and the new Integra Type S, kick things up a notch.

How does the Integra Type S look?

Acura only released a few images of the Integra Type S in camouflage form, but it looks largely the same as the regular version, save for a few subtle enhancements. Like the Civic Type R, there are three centrally-mounted exhaust tips that sit below the rear bumper. To set it apart from the rest, Acura also added a sculpted rear diffuser for better aerodynamics, deeper side skirts, and a small lip spoiler on the deck lid.

Up front, there are fender flares incorporated into the bumper, which are hopefully functional, and there are 19-inch wheels that fill out the fenders themselves. Overall, the Integra Type S looks like it’s going to be a more mature alternative to the Honda Civic Type R, which means that it could cater to an older crowd.

Another speculation is pricing. The 2023 Honda Civic Type carries a starting price of $43,990 (including the destination charge), and the current Acura Integra A-Spec costs $36,895. That said, we can currently presume that the 2024 Acura Integra Type S will likely start in the $50,000 range before any dealer markups.

That may sound like a lot for most buyers, but considering what we know about the Integra Type S so far, it could end up being a good deal.
