The 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia Finally Gets an Update, Sort Of
With its initial arrival in 2017, the Alfa Romeo Giulia was a breath of fresh air. Standout styling, outstanding performance, and a heap of interior luxury made up for a raft of shortcomings. But six years in, the Giulia is starting to show its age. Now though, a 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia is on the way, but subtle changes leave us wanting more.
Six years to a mid-cycle refresh
After six years on the market and a spotty reputation, it would make sense that the 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia would get a big update. But it’s not.
Instead, the Italian brand introduces just minor changes to the Giulia that help modernize the existing design. The front fascia, for instance, remains instantly recognizable as an Alfa. But new LED headlights feature three elements, in line with the upcoming 2024 Tonale SUV. And around back, smoked taillights give the Giulia an added sense of grandeur.
The interior updates are similarly subtle. The biggest change to the 2024 Giulia is the digital instrument cluster, which expands from seven inches to 12.3. Infotainment remains unchanged from prior Giulia models, but Alfa Connect Services make an appearance for the first time.
It’s a small change but one that has big implications. For one, over-the-air updates allow the company to update software without a visit to the dealership. Furthermore, remote smartphone functions are now available, allowing the Giulia to keep up with competitors like the C-Class and BMW 3 Series luxury cars.
No performance changes to the 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia
The powertrain options in the 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia remain identical to what you might find on the lot today. A base 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 280 horsepower in the majority of Giulia models. And in the top-spec Quadrifoglio, the Italian sport sedan delivers 505 horsepower from a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 powerplant. No matter which engine is under the hood, an eight-speed automatic transmission sends that power to the wheels.
As expected, the Giulia retains its rear-wheel drive setup, though all-wheel drive is still optional across the range of base models. Only the Quadrifoglio is standard with all-wheel drive and features a unique drive mode system that allows for rear-drive dynamics.
New model lineup for the Alfa Romeo Giulia in 2024
There are four trim levels coming to the 2024 lineup; Sprint, Ti, Veloce, and Competizione. The latter option is a limited-edition spec that includes active suspension, 21-inch wheels, and premium audio along with unique badging. All of that checks in at $53,115, according to MotorAuthority, and pricing for the lower-tier models is still under wraps.
What’s next for Alfa Romeo?
While we’d typically expect a full makeover after six years on the market, the 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia is more of a stop-gap. The Italian brand intends to make its next Giulia an EV, so this refresh is intended to keep the model fresh until it goes electric in 2025 or 2026.
