Is the 2024 BMW iX M60 Really Worth Over $111K?
The electric vehicle space is gradually getting more saturated as automakers compete for the attention of consumers. Electric vehicles are the future of the automotive industry, whether drivers like it or not. Major automakers are investing billions into the development and production of new electric vehicle nameplates to strive for more carbon-neutral portfolios. Luxury brands are tasked with making sales in a tricky and expensive niche. Is BMW’s midsize electric SUV model, the iX M60, worth its high price?
The 2024 BMW iX M60 costs over $110,000
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) vehicles aren’t necessarily designed for the average mainstream market. German automaker BMW produces high-quality luxury automobiles for society’s elite. Some models are affordable enough for average Joes, especially used models, but others are clearly reserved for the world’s top earners.
The common man may never find themselves behind the wheel of BMW’s upper echelon of vehicles, but we sure can appreciate the automotive marvels and draw inspiration from them. The iX is one of those BMW models that the average American consumer probably isn’t considering because of its high starting price.
The base model iX costs more than many fully loaded luxury midsize SUVs. It starts at a whopping $87,100. The iX M60 has a starting MSRP of $111,500 before taxes and additional fees. It’s even pricier than the Tesla Model X Plaid, which is known to have amazing performance specs. The real question is, does the 2024 iX M60 provide adequate value to justify its price, or is the midsize electric SUV much too costly?
Is the BMW iX M60 worth the money?
A starting price of $111,500 is hard for most consumers to wrap their heads around, but BMW spared no expense in producing its new electric SUV model. The iX makes a statement, and the iX M60 is designed to compete at the highest level, not designed for affordability or practicality. It was created to push limits, and it accomplished this goal through its performance specs.
The 2024 BMW iX M60 has a maximum horsepower output of a whopping 610 horses and 749 lb-ft of torque. BMW claims that it can go from 0-60 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds (which is pretty impressive for such a big SUV). This 0-60 time makes it quicker than models like the 2024 BMW X5 M Competition and 2023 Maserati Levante Trofeo. It still isn’t nearly as quick as the insanely fast Tesla Model X Plaid.
The midsize luxury electric SUV comes standard with three-stage heated front seats, multi-color adjustable ambient lighting, and a panoramic eclipsing sky lounge roof. It also includes a heated steering wheel, a tire pressure monitor, and dynamic cruise control. The iX M60 features active blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, and frontal collision warning as well.
Should you get a 2024 BMW iX M60?
The 2024 iX M60 has up to 296 miles of driving range. It’s made for families that strongly value speed and luxury. The iX M60 does many things well, but it’s too pricey for most consumers. In fact, the Tesla Model X Plaid offers more value in terms of performance. The Model X Plaid can go from 0-60 miles per hour in an astounding 2.5 seconds.
CNET praises the iX M60’s acceleration, but claims that it “comes at too high a cost.” Ultimately, there are better electric SUVs for the money that can outperform the iX M60.
