The Chevrolet Trailblazer has not been a huge hit as expected, though Chevy says it can’t keep up with orders. Sales figures show it selling less than half of its rival Honda HR-V, at 115,416 versus 60,888. But Trailblazer numbers are similar to other small SUVs like the Mazda CX-30 and Toyota Corolla Cross. We expected a refresh coming, which is for the 2024 version.

What’s new with the 2024 Chevy Trailblazer?

Styling, more standard features, and upgraded technology improve on the Trailblazer’s past features. But what gets noticed first is the new front fascia. A bolder blackout grille, slimmer headlights, and lower intake that lessens body-color sheet metal are the main changes. The lower black valance also lines up better with the side cladding than the previous version.

Those air inlets have grown as well. It all equates to a more aggressive, but less broken in front. There are also new wheels, with unique 19-inch wheels in RS trim. And speaking of trims, they are the base LS, then LT, ACTIV, and RS at the top. ACTIV takes on off-road cues, while the RS features a more sporty presentation.

What safety and driver-assist features does the 2024 Trailblazer have?

All Trailblazer models get Chevrolet Safety Assist. The safety suite includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with a lane departure warning, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, and IntelliBeam high beam headlight control. 

Both the ACTIV and RS receive blacked-out body features, a two-tone roof, and chrome exhaust tips. The ACTIV version gets meatier tires, shocks, and dampers, giving it more of an off-road character. Also, wireless charging is now part of LT, ACTIV, and RS models. 

Two engines are available, the 1.2-liter with 137 hp, while the 1.3-liter offers 155 hp. The Honda HR-V has an identical output, while the Mazda CX-30 produces 191 hp for the base 2.5-liter and 250 hp for the optional turbocharged 2.5. Too bad the Trailblazer couldn’t come closer to the CX-30’s numbers.

What’s new inside?

The Trailblazer has more standard features than in previous years. Push-button start, cruise control, an 11-inch touchscreen, and HD Rear Vision Camera now come with the base LS. Among the changes inside, body-color trim is added.

First appearing in 2019, the popular RS version hit showrooms in 2021. While its middle-of-the-road production numbers could use a boost, the Trailblazer still beats out the Jeep Compass, Nissan Kicks, and Hyundai Kona in sales. We should also add that one reason for lower sales for all of the small SUVs mentioned here could be attributed to supply chain issues. 

When originally launched, the base model sold for under $20,000. Though no pricing has been announced for the 2024 model, last year’s version had a base price of $22,100. We expect to see a similar price for the revamped 2024 version as well.
