The 2024 Chevy Colorado Struggles Against Another Delay
It’s time to start worrying about the Chevy Colorado because it can’t catch a break. You may have noticed that you haven’t seen very many 2023 and 2024 Chevrolet Colorado models on the streets that’s no coincidence. It keeps getting blocked by production delays.
Why is the 2024 Chevy Colorado delayed again?
The 2024 Chevy Colorado is facing a new delay due to parts shortages. General Motors didn’t specify which parts are in limited supply.
But it did share that the Wentzville Assembly Plant in Missouri, where the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks are built will be shut down on December 18.
Production is expected to resume on January 2, but that’s if things stay on schedule. It’s not uncommon for shipping delays and new problems to prolong production issues, so fingers crossed that things don’t get worse.
Before this delay, the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike stopped production. It lasted for six weeks.
Earlier in 2023, Colorado models were seen collecting outside of the factory, under tents. Truck modes were being built, but not shipped.
This may have been a quality control measure, but General Motors didn’t tell customers what was causing the delay.
Also, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was slow to evaluate each engine. This prevented models from being shipped to dealerships.
How long is the wait for a 2024 Colorado?
With the best-case scenario, a new 2024 Chevy Colorado model can be built and shipped out in about 10 to 12 weeks. However, production isn’t running smoothly at the moment.
Delays have pushed back orders by months. Production of the 2024 model was slated to begin in October but didn’t start until December 11.
We wouldn’t be surprised if the wait is extended between three to five months. Some reservation holders didn’t receive a production build date until five months later.
Production of the 2023 model ended on December 13, so don’t be shocked if your order changes to a 2024 model.
