The 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Is Insanely Tall
If you feel like the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 isn’t tall enough, then you aren’t alone. A tall ride height is essential for a better ground clearance and off-roading angles. Plus, it feels good to sit high above the road like a king/queen. That’s why the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison is going even taller.
How much ground clearance does the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison have?
We’re still waiting for the official specs of the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison to be released. However, it will debut on May 31, so we don’t have to wait much longer. Also, we can speculate that the Colorado ZR2 Bison will be incredibly tall.
AutoBlog shared that the ZR2 Bison needed more ground clearance and American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) delivered. It has a 5.0-inch suspension lift and rides on 35-inch tires, making it taller than the Colorado ZR2.
The 2023 Colorado ZR2 has a 2.0-inch suspension lift and rides on 33-inch Goodyear Territory Mud Terrain tires. It has a 10.7-inch ground clearance, 38.3 approach angle, 24.6 break-over angle, and a 25.1 departure angle.
So, the ZR2 Bison is expected to hit 11.8 inches of ground clearance with improved off-roading angles. The extra height and revised bumpers give it an advantage.
What comes with the 2023 Colorado ZR2 Bison?
The 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison rides on 18-inch gloss black AEV wheels wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear DuraTrac All-Terrain tires. The wheels are beadlock capable. Some images show a spare tire mounted on the back, but others don’t.
AEV revised the design of the front and rear bumpers to enhance the truck’s capabilities. The bumpers are steel with integrated recovery points. Also, there is space on the front bumper for a factory-installed winch.
Not only is the undercarriage protected by additional skid plates, but the skidplates are stronger thanks to boron steel. You can spot Chevrolet Performance hydraulic bump stops.
The Colorado ZR2 uses rear long travel Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) dampers. The shocks look a little different on the ZR2 Bison. It could use something new or stronger instead.
Also, the ZR2 has ZR2-only cast-iron knuckles, upper control arms, and lower control arms. The shocks were moved outboard for more control, and the rear suspension still has a durable leaf spring setup.
The ZR2 Bison might look a little different. The front and rear ends have been covered by camouflage, indicating that the headlights, grille design, bumpers, and taillights could be updated.
How much power does the ZR2 Bison have?
The 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison is expected to use the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with an updated eight-speed automatic transmission for faster and smoother gear shifts. Also, an intercooler may sit behind the bumper.
This is a solid amount of power, but for the upgrade costs, drivers may want a little extra muscle. The Colorado can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.5 seconds. The ZR2 Bison might be slower due to the heavier off-roading equipment.
Also, the Colorado ZR2 can tow up to 7,700 lbs, and we will have to wait to see how much the ZR2 Bison can pull. We will probably see more teasers before the May 31 reveal, so stay tuned for more updates.
