The 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 Is Better Late Than Never
We welcome the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 with open arms because we like big trucks and cannot lie. Y’all other drivers can’t deny that when an itty bitty truck has enough diesel power to rumble in your face, you get sprung. Watch out because the 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 might be irresistible.
What comes with the 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD ZR2?
The large and in charge 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 has finally arrived to fight the Ram 2500 HD Power Wagoner and Ford F-150 with bereft off-roading upgrades on a massive scale.
It rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch all-terrain tires and has a 1.5-inch suspension lift. The Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 has an 11.6-inch ground clearance with a 32.5-degree approach angle, a 25.7-degree departure angle, and a break over angle of 21.2 degrees.
This truck is surprisingly agile for its size. The suspension features three-spool Multimatic Dynamic Spool Valve dampers, ZR2-specific control arms, steering knuckles, and an electronically locking rear differential.
The undercarriage is protected by skid plates. The one in the front is aluminum, and steel shielding protects the transfer case. Red tow hooks and a flow-tie Chevrolet badge complete the look.
How much power does the Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 have?
The standard 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 engine is a 6.6-liter V8 unit that cranks out 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. It’s expertly paired with the Allison 10-speed automatic transmission.
Upgrade to the available Duramax turbodiesel 6.6-liter V8 engine with 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque. Four-wheel drive is standard.
The 7.3-liter V8 engine in the Ford F-250 provides 430 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque. The high-output Power Stroke 6.7-liter V8 diesel engine delivers 500 hp and 1200 lb-ft of torque.
With the Ram 2500 HD Power Wagon, you get a 6.4-liter V8 engine with 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The Ram 2500 HD Rebel is available with the Cummins 6.7-liter inline-four turbodiesel engine with 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque.
When properly equipped, the gas-powered Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 can tow up to 16,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 3,397 lbs. According to Cars.com, the diesel engine helps this beast tow up to 18,500 lbs.
The Ford F-250 Tremor can tow between 15,000 to 20,000 lbs. The Ram Power Wagon maxes out at about 10,590 lb, which isn’t great for a heavy-duty truck.
Wait, what’s the Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 Bison?
The 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 Bison is an even beefier off-roading giant. It is enhanced with AEV upgrades such as steel skid plates and steel bumpers with winch provisions and recovery points.
It rides on gloss-black wheels and has slightly better approach and departure angles thanks to the unique bumpers. It’s about 380 lbs heavier too, but the extra protection could be worth it in tough work environments.
The Silverado doesn’t have a solid front axle, which could hurt its capabilities. But we can’t wait to put it to the test. It should reach dealerships by the end of the summer.
