The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV 3WT Has Big Promises to Deliver
Electric vehicles promise tons of range and power. But options like the Tesla Cybertruck have fallen short, leaving me to be skeptical about the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV 3WT. The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV 3WT boasts plenty of muscle, but will it deliver?
How much range will the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV 3WT have?
Reportedly, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV 3WT will deliver up to 393 miles on a single charge. This is a new entry-level model that sits below the Silverado EV 4WT, which promises 450 miles of range.
However, the Tesla Cybertruck promises to provide 500 miles of range but barely makes its actual EPA-estimated 340-mile range.
Also, the Silverado EV 3WT claims to have a towing capacity of up to 12,500 lbs and a payload capacity of up to 2,500 lbs.
It might have that much muscle, but how will towing impact its range? The Ford F-150 Lightning can tow up to 10,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 2,235 lbs. While it can haul those amounts, it quickly loses tons of range while being put to work.
So, I will need to get behind the wheel of the Silverado EV 3WT to believe what it can do. The only solid facts about it at the moment include its price and what comes standard.
The Silverado EV 3WT starts at $74,900. This sounds like a lot for a work truck. It comes with a dual-motor Ultium powertrain that delivers 510 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque.
A new Fleet Package can help shave a little off the top by removing the tonneau cover, side assist steps, and dual-level charging cable. It also replaces the 18-inch black painted aluminum wheels with basic steelies.
The Silverado EV 4WT starts at $79,900 with 525 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. It has more range, but can only tow up to 10,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,400 lbs.
Chevrolet still plans on providing more WT trims at a later date and a fleet-focused Max Trailering package that increases the towing capacity to 20,000 lbs. Stay tuned for updates to see what these electric trucks can really do.
