The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV Is Getting a Big Range Boost
Electric trucks are growing in popularity, and recently we got some exciting news about the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV. This pickup truck is not here yet, but it does have an EPA-estimated range. And that range appears to be higher than initially expected. So, what’s going on with Chevy’s electric truck?
What is the range of the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV?
The Chevy Silverado EV will have an electric range of up to 450 miles. This figure is specifically for the work truck trim, but it has been tested by the EPA. This is the electric truck that fleet customers will get, and it also boasts 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque. That’s quite a bit of power for something intended for job sites and commercial use.
At first, the Silverado EV WT was going to have 400 miles of electric range. So that extra 50 miles will likely be appreciated. It’s not clear what led to this increase in electric range. But for most purposes, 450 miles should be good enough for daily use.
How long does it take to charge a Chevy electric truck?
The charging time for an electric truck varies on the method of charging being used. If you are using Level 1 Charging, you should expect it to take a Chevy Silverado EV about 24 hours to charge. With DC Fast Charging, that time can be greatly reduced. And that is why folks that own electric vehicles opt to upgrade the charging capacity in their homes.
Range anxiety is real when it comes to EVs. So things like charging time do play quite the factor in which electric truck people will put their money down on. Thankfully with things like DC Fast Charging, owning these types of vehicles is becoming more practical.
Which electric truck has the longest range?
If the EPA estimate is correct, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 EV will have the best electric truck range. With an estimated range of 450 miles, it will beat ouut competitors like the Ford F-150 LIghtning and Ram 1500 REV. The Ford Lightning’s best range is 320 miles and the Ram 1500 REV has a range of about 350 miles.
Although, I do think it is worth mentioning that the 450 miles range of the Silverado EV is for the WT trim. According to MotorTrend, this package is directed at fleet buyers. It looks like GM is hoping to get a leg up in that segment, and this additional range might help with that.
Can you buy a Chevy Silverado EV?
At this point in time, you can reserve Chevy’s electric truck. Unlike Ford, Chevy and Ram are still working to get electric trucks into production. So, they aren’t in the hands of the public yet.
The refundable reservation is set at $100, and this truck will likely have an MSRP of around $40,000 for base models. That said, if the Ford F-150 Lightning is any indication, the pricing of this electric pickup could change.
