2024 Chevy Silverado EV Orders Are Heating Up
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV is Chevrolet’s first electric pickup truck. The Silverado EV will rival the Ford F-150 Lightning. The Silverado EV Work Truck will be the only affordable model to compete against the Lightning Pro until the Ram 1500 EV arrives. Apparently, orders are already picking up for Chevy’s first electric pickup truck.
Chevrolet has 140,000 reservations for the Silverado EV ahead of production
There’s clearly a demand for Chevrolet’s first electric pickup truck. According to MotorTrend, the American automaker has already amassed 140,000 reservations as of April 2022. The Ford F-150 Lightning had close to 200,000 reservations before production finally began. There’s no telling whether or not the electric Chevy truck will be as popular, but orders are piling up.
The Silverado is one of Chevrolet’s best-selling models, so it’s natural that GM chose to electrify the nameplate. GM CEO Mary Barra has high hopes for the truck and claims that it will be the best electric pickup on the market.
Chevy has released several impressive specs from the Silverado EV RST, but the average consumer won’t be able to afford the final trim. That being said, the RST will still gain the attention of many auto enthusiasts because of its unique capabilities.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST boasts impressive performance specs
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST is amazingly quick. The RST makes 660 horsepower using its electric motor powertrain system. The electric pickup truck produces a whopping 780 lb-ft of torque. It can go from 0-60 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds. Long range models will get 400 miles of driving range.
The Silverado EV RST isn’t as quick as the Rivian R1T Launch Edition, but it will be among the quickest pickup trucks on the market. The RST proves that EVs can be just as quick and powerful as pickup trucks will internal combustion engines.
The average American probably doesn’t need 780 lb-ft of torque, but it’s nice to know that GM is providing such a wide array of trim levels for the electric pickup truck. The Silverado EV RST starts at around $105,000.
The Silverado EV Work Truck will be much closer to $40K. It won’t boast the same impressive performance specs as the RST, but it should provide engaging driving dynamics and sufficient range for consumers.
Is the Chevy Silverado EV worth buying?
The Chevy Silverado EV will come in different trim levels that offer different degrees of luxury and capability. The electric pickup truck should be able to compete with the F-150 lightning at every trim level. The gas-powered Chevrolet Silverado may have been no match for Ford or Ram trucks, but Chevy’s electric pickup truck is gunnin’ for the top spot.
According to The Drive, the F-150 Lightning will have a “one-year lead” on production. Let the electric pickup truck wars begin.
