We get to finally feast our eyes upon the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV. But there’s one drawback to consider about the all-electric Chevrolet Silverado truck. It’s not going to be available until 2024, which feels like an eternity from now. 

Is the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV worth the wait? 

Maybe, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV has some incredible features, but the earliest models won’t arrive until the summer of 2023. That leaves people with plenty of time to consider rivals such as the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning and 2022 Riviran R1T, which are already in production. 

The Silverado EV isn’t even the first truck to debut from the General Motors family. The GMC Hummer EV is already being delivered. Although, the Hummer EV is bit more expensive than the new Silverado EV. 

How much does the Silverado EV cost? 

The base model or the 2024 Chevy Silverado Work Truck will start at $39,000. This is a smart move because now the Chevy Silverado EV WT has a competitive price with the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning base model, which starts at about $40,000. 

But higher trims of both trucks, like the Silverado EV First Edition or F-150 Lightning Platinum, easily reach over $100,000. So, we need to see what’s included with the base models to determine which option is better. 

We know that the standard-range Ford F-150 Lightning has an estimated 230-mile range, and the extended battery increases the range to 300 miles. The Chevy Silverado is bragging about having an available 400-mile range. 

The keyword there is available. A WT is coming out for fleets later. The first models to arrive could have a lower range, but Chevrolet is keeping this information under wraps for now. Lower trims of the Hummer EV are expected to have a range between 250 and 300 miles. 

But the Silverado EV has an electrical architecture that’s capable of charging 800 volts and 350 kW, meaning it can add about 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. The F-150 Lightning can add about 54 miles of charge in 10 minutes with a DC fast charger. 

How much power does the Silverado EV have? 

The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV has up to 664 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque. This is with the RST trim, which features Wide Open Watts. In this mode, the Silverado EV is expected to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. But The RST will arrive after the WT model. 

With the WT model, you can expect up to 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque. The standard range F-150 Lightning provides 426 hp, and the extend-range option pumps out 563 hp. Up to 715 lb-ft of torque is available with both setups. 

The Silverado EV work truck can tow up to 8,000 lbs, and the RST model can tow up to 10,000 lbs. A future model will be able to tow up to 20,000 models, but you’ll have to wait longer for that one. Also, the F-150 Lightning can tow up to 10,000 lbs. 

So, while a more powerful version of the Silverado EV is on the way, we aren’t sure how long the wait time will be. Until then, you could get a comparable electric truck while you wait.
