The 2024 Chevy Silverado Has Even More Spicy Updates
Get out of the way, the Chevrolet Silverado refuses to slow down! It’s had plenty of recent updates, including a revised exterior look, revamped interior, and more turbo diesel power. But the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 is improving with even more upgrades.
What is the 2024 Chevy Silverado TurboMax?
The 2024 Chevy Silverado TurboMax is the new name for the gas-powered 2.7-liter inline-four L3B engine. Despite having a new name to match the rest of the lineup, it doesn’t have any extra power.
This standard engine cranks out 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. For more maxed-out power, you can upgrade to the 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax diesel engine. It provides 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque.
Plus, this engine is now available with the Silverado ZR2 off-roading trim to help off-roaders dominate obstacles. Previously, this off-roader was only paired with the 6.2-liter V8 engine with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
Also, the 6.2-liter engine has a new active exhaust system and a Sport mode. This mode was missed on our 2023 tester. The system will adjust how loud the exhaust is based on the selected drive mode.
Last but not least, the available 5.3-liter V8 engine cranks out 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. MotorTrend shared that it doesn’t have any updates at the moment.
2024 Silverado 1500: What’s new?
Aside from a few engine updates, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 gained a few extra features. For example, the base model or the Silverado WT now has standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. So it comes with every model in the lineup.
The Silverado Work Truck gained standard parking sensors in the front and rear as well. The High Country trim has standard adaptive cruise control. The High Country trim can be equipped with the Midnight package as well. It’s basically a black appearance package.
The similar Blackout appearance package is now available with the Custom, Custom TrailBoss, LT TrailBoss, and Silverado ZR2 models. Plus, you can add rear-sear seatbelt indicators to models with a backseat.
Two new shades of paint include Lakeshore Blue and Slate Gray. Pricing for the engine updates and refreshed packages hasn’t been released, but it’s safe to expect a small uptick.
Does the 2024 Silverado have a good fuel economy?
With the TurboMax engine, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 gets an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and up to 21 mpg on the highway. Adding four-wheel drive may reduce these figures a bit.
With the Duramax, the Silverado gets an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and up to 33 mpg on the highway. Adding 4×4 drops the highway rating down to 26 mpg. We had trouble getting above 20 mpg but could have driven more conservatively.
The diesel engine allows the Silverado to travel up to 600 miles between fill-ups, which is impressive. It will be interesting to see how the ZR2 impacts the Duramax’s fuel economy.
The suspension lift, larger tires, and heavier skidplates might take a toll. But it should be more fuel efficient than models equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 engine. Stay tuned for the latest Chevrolet updates.
