2024 Chevy Trax Is Cheaper But Better in Every Way
For the 2024 model year, the Chevrolet Trax will be better than ever before. In previous model years, the Trax was less than impressive, to say the least. The model struggled to find an audience as a cheaply made subcompact SUV with very little interior space. However, for its comeback in 2024, the redesign looks very promising. The 2024 Chevy Trax is cheaper but better in every way.
What’s new with the 2024 Chevy Trax?
According to Car and Driver, the 2024 Chevy Trax looks completely different from the outgoing version. It’s larger, cheaper, and looks better outside and in. Surprisingly, the redesigned Trax starts at $21,495 and will go on sale in the Spring of 2023. Now that the Spark is discontinued, the Trax will be the new Chevrolet entry-level SUV.
The new compact model has a significantly longer wheelbase and length and a lower roof height. Overall, its dimensions are completely different from the model it’s replacing. According to the automaker, the new Trax has more rear legroom and more cargo capacity too. For the first time, the Trax is actually larger than the Chevy Trailblazer, the other subcompact SUV from Chevrolet. However, the Trailblazer remains more expensive than the Trax, as it offers more powertrain options and all-wheel drive.
What we know about the 2024 Chevy Trax
Firstly, the new Chevy Trax will cost $21,495 for the base model and range up to $24,995 for the Activ and RS trim levels. These trim names are similar to the Trailblazer, which is a bit more expensive in all forms. It’s surprising that everything about the Trax seems bigger and better than before, but it’s actually cheaper. It comes with a single engine, a turbocharged 1.2-liter inline-three that produces 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. In addition, a six-speed automatic transmission is standard.
It shares its base engine with the Trailblazer, which additionally offers a turbo-three making 155 horsepower. Unfortunately, the Trax does not have an optional engine for buyers interested in more power. Although it will be one of the cheapest SUVs on the market, the Trax has a surprising amount of standard equipment.
For example, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen and driver assistance features like lane-keep assist and automatic high beams. Following the base LS trim are the 1RS, LT, and RS models. The latter of the quartet is a special model offering 19-inch wheels and a sportier appearance. The Activ trim has a faux skid plate and chrome accents for the same price.
Some of the optional equipment listed by C/D includes the following: a larger 11.0-inch touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, automatic climate control, a sunroof, and a power driver’s seat.
The Trax might share a lot with the Trailblazer
Since many other things are shared between the two, we expect the full list of standard equipment might be similar to the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer. According to Edmunds, the LS base model has a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, forward collision mitigation, and more. However, some of these technology niceties could come in at the second-cheapest trim for the Trax, which would explain why the base Trax is so cheap.
In conclusion, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax is set to be bigger, better, and cheaper than ever before. We love the changes coming to this model, which was lacking in most areas. Since Chevy couldn’t find enough buyers for the old Trax, this new and improved model seems much better. Expect to see the bigger, better, cheaper 2024 Chevy Trax sometime during the Spring of 2023.
