Chevrolet has caught the automotive industry off guard by announcing the fully redesigned 2024 Trax compact SUV. The 2024 Trax appears to be a pretty dramatic departure from the previous model in size, appearance, and overall packaging. If it’s done right, Chevy could have an outstanding compact crossover bargain on its hands.  

What’s new about the 2024 Chevy Trax?

Almost every piece of the 2024 Chevy Trax is new. This robust redesign is welcome news since the original Trax wasn’t much to write home about. Here are the major takeaways from the redesigned crossover:

  • It’s $1,400 cheaper than the outgoing model.
  • It’s larger than the 2022 Trax in nearly every dimension. 
  • New, sporty styling is standard inside and out. 
  • A six-speed automatic transmission is standard – not a CVT.

The redesigned Trax looks way sportier than before

Compare the 2024 Trax and 2022 model; you’ll see quite an upgrade in sporty aesthetics. The crossover has more angular lines, stylish LED running lights, and a sleeker profile. It clearly takes styling cues from other Chevy crossovers like the Trailblazer and Blazer. 

The cabin appears to be massively improved, too. 

Where the previous model’s interior looked every bit the part of a rental car, it’s clear the styling team put real effort into the crossover’s cabin. 

The 2024 crossover is bigger than the previous model 

In keeping with the industry’s trends, the redesigned 2024 Trax is larger than the previous model. By the eye test, it appears longer and wider than the 2022 Trax. And the numbers support it. 

According to Car and Driver, the new crossover is over 11 inches longer and nearly two inches wider than the previous model. However, the 2024 Trax has also lost a couple of inches of height. The result is a crossover with an extended, wagon-like profile. It only reinforces the model’s sporty appearance. 

It is now Chevy’s cheapest model 

The biggest surprise of the 2024 Chevy Trax is that it is cheaper than the outgoing model. 

It isn’t typical for a vehicle to get less expensive in successive model years, but Chevy has done just that with the new Trax. Car and Driver reports that the Trax has a starting price of $1,400 lower than the previous model. That makes it Chevrolet’s most affordable new model. 

The 2024 Chevy Trax is available now, and it’s the cheapest new model you’ll find at a Chevrolet dealership.
