Sometimes people avoid entry-level SUVs because they associate cheap models with weak performance, a lack of features, and an uncomfortable ride quality. But the Chevrolet Trax is here to provide you wrong. The 2024 Chevy Trax saves money without any sacrifices unless you need AWD. 

Is the 2024 Chevy Trax worth buying? 

Yes, the 2024 Chevy Trax is worth buying because it’s a well-rounded bargain. It doesn’t seem to drop the ball in any particular area. 

It has an MSRP of $20,400 and the top-spec ACTIV trim takes the starting price up to $23,900. That means every single trim level starts under $24,000. But if you started driving this SUV around without knowing the price, you’d expect it to cost more. 

Before I get into the Trax benefits here are a few potential drawbacks to consider: 

  • It’s not available with AWD, limiting its capabilities 
  • Storage space for smaller items could be improved 
  • Higher trim levels like the 2RS models don’t have extra power 
  • There are no rear air vents for passengers and pets 

Now let’s get into the good stuff. The 2024 Trax has been completely remodeled and offers an attractive exterior and interior style. It’s sleek, and refined with modern wheel designs, LED headlights, and a more prominent grille design. 

Most affordable SUVs have an egg shape with big round headlights. They look like bugs, so I’m happy to see that the automotive industry is moving away from that trend. 

Also, while this SUV is affordable, it doesn’t compromise its performance in the class. The standard 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque is no slouch. 

The Trax can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.8 seconds, which is solid for the class. Direct steering and responsive handling provide an athletic flair. 

While the six-speed automatic transmission may seem sluggish at times, the Trax is quick off the line. Plus, it has confident brakes and a convenient turning radius. It’s relaxing and easy to drive in crowded city areas. 

Plus, the Trax is comfortable. The front seats are well-padded and supportive. The backseat has a surprising amount of passenger space available. The Trax is more spacious than it looks on the outside. 

It quickly absorbs impacts for a smooth ride. The interior is relatively quiet for the class. It’s much quieter than the Honda HR-V but doesn’t quite match the more expensive Mazda CX-30. 
An 8.0-inch infotainment screen is standard, which is great for the compact SUV class. Higher trim levels get an 11.0-inch screen with a digital instrument cluster. 

The graphics are bright and modern but the rearview camera could have a better resolution. There are plenty of physical controls to use. The touchscreen menu is straightforward and intuitive. 

Overall the tech is modern with features like standard wireless Apple CarPlay while being refreshingly easy to use. 

Also, the interior stands out with high-quality materials instead of cheap, painted plastics. Higher trim levels have leather upholstery with racing-oriented accents such as a flat bottom steering wheel and red accent stitching. 

Compact SUVs usually skimp out on cargo space. But this is another example of where the 2024 Chevy Trax goes against traditional norms. 

It has up to 25.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row with up to 54.1 cubes total. It offers the most space in the class. You can use the available roof rails for extra storage if needed. 

Honestly, I’m not sure how Chevy isn’t losing money by selling the Trax at such low prices. I’m not paid to provide positive reviews or anything. I’ll let an automaker know when something stinks. 

The 2024 Chevy Trax is far from disappointing drivers. It’s a well-rounded bargain that shouldn’t be flying under the radar.
