The 2024 Ford Expedition Is Adding a New Package With a Familiar Name
The fourth-generation Ford Expedition received a mid-cycle refresh in 2022, but the latest model will boast exciting upgrades. Among the 2024 Ford Expedition updates is a new package with a familiar name. The Excursion Package provides features for adventure-seekers while calling to mind a discontinued Ford SUV.
The 2024 Ford Expedition touts improved comfort and capabilities
The largest model in Ford’s SUV lineup, the 2024 Ford Expedition starts at $56,075. It offers two body styles — regular and an extended Max version — and six trims. They’re the XL XTS, XLT, Limited, Timberline, King Ranch, and Platinum.
With seating for eight, the three-row full-size SUV provides plenty of cargo capacity and truck-like towing capabilities. Equipped with a powerful twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine and Heavy Duty Trailer Package, the 4×4 Expedition can tow 9,200 pounds. Exterior features include power-deployable running boards, a power liftgate, 22-inch 12-spoke polished aluminum wheels, and rear parking sensors.
The interior of the 2024 Ford Expedition offers improved comfort, with leather-trimmed, heated, and ventilated power seating with extra cushioning for the driver and front passenger. The second row has PowerFold heated captain’s chairs with armrests, and the third row offers power reclining 60/40 PowerFold seating. Both passenger rows include power folding head restraints for added safety. A standard panoramic glass roof allows sunlight to fill the cabin, and a heated steering wheel is a nice amenity for drivers with cold hands.
Tech features include a standard 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice recognition, navigation, and tri-zone automatic climate control. An optional 15.5-inch vertical LCD touchscreen is also available. In addition, the range-topping Expedition Platinum trim gets Ford’s intuitive BlueCruise system for hands-free highway driving.
There’s also a new no-upcharge Wild Green exterior color with a Sandstone interior available for all 2024 Ford Expedition and Expedition Max trims.
The Excursion Package shares a name with a discontinued Ford SUV
The 2024 Expedition build and price tool on the Ford website shows the $3,995 Excursion Package is available only with the Limited High 302A equipment package with a 4×4 setup. It adds $10,000 to the Limited’s $68,960 starting price.
That’s a hefty upcharge, but the Excursion Package provides plenty of features to tackle adventures. Highlights are heavy-duty towing capability, suspension and drivetrain upgrades, and continuous controlled damping (CCD) with a suspension road preview.
Other upgrades include ControlTrac with eLSD (a 3.73 electronic limited-slip differential) and an advanced cargo manager with black roof-rail crossbars. Interior floor liners for the first and second rows make cleaning up after a day of off-roading quick and easy.
Though the Expedition previously offered those features, bundling them into the Excursion Package is a nostalgic nod to a retired model. The Ford Excursion was a heavy-duty SUV the company sold from 2000 to 2005.
Can the 2024 Ford Expedition continue this SUV’s sales streak?
A 2024 Ford Expedition Limited equipped with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package and the Excursion Package retails for $82,545, including the destination charge. The pre-order process has already begun, with availability expected toward the end of 2023 or early 2024.
Meanwhile, full-size SUVs are flying off dealership lots, perhaps signaling even better times ahead for the 2024 Expedition. This year’s first-quarter Expedition sales saw a 99.21% increase over Q1 2022.
Still, as demand for full-size SUVs grows, Ford has a ways to go before surpassing the Chevy Tahoe as the top-selling vehicle in its class.
