The 2024 Ford F-150 Got Worse in 1 Crucial Area
Typically, the incredibly popular Ford F-150 builds upon its success each year with new improvements. Now the mid-cycle refresh mostly carries on the tradition. However, this year is odd because the 2024 Ford F-150 got weaker in one important area.
How much can the 2024 Ford F-150 tow?
When properly equipped, the 2024 Ford F-150 can tow up to 13,500 lbs and carry a payload of up to 2,455. Those figures are pretty stout, but the 2023 F-150 can tow up to 14,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 3,325 lbs.
So, the 2024 F-150’s towing capacity was reduced by 500 lbs, and the payload capacity is 870 lbs less than before.
If this difference in muscle makes an impact, then consider getting a used F-150 model or moving up to the Ford F-250, which can tow up to 23,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 4,303 lbs.
But let’s circle back to why the new F-150 tows less. Each F-150 model, aside from the PowerBoost Hybrid, now comes with a 36-gallon fuel tank. It makes the F-150 heavier, reducing it’s max towing capacity.
Ford assumed that people would appreciate the extra range between fill-ups more than the ability to tow an extra 500 lbs. Also, the F-150 Hybrid has a 30-gallon tank.
Also, to achieve the 3,325 lb payload capacity, you need to equip the 2023 F-150 with the Heavy Payload Package. It hasn’t been very popular, so Ford decided to drop it in order to simplify 2024 F-150 configurations.
What’s new for the 2024 F-150?
The 2024 Ford F-150 received a mid-cycle refresh, so it gained a fresh look. The truck features revised LED headlight/taillight designs, tweaked grille shapes, different bumper shapes, new wheel designs, and unique special edition colors.
While the new Ford F-150 Tremor stands out the most, with jagged grille pieces and orange accents, don’t sleep on the F-150 Raptor. It has suspension upgrades that include Fox Dual Live Valve Shocks and 37-inch tires with modified bumper caps.
The 3.3-liter V6 engine with 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque is standard with the 2023 F-150 but got dropped for 2024. The new standard engine is the twin-turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost V6 unit with 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque.
Also, the Ford F-150 Hybrid with 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque is now available for the same price as models equipped with the 3.5-liter V6 engine to boost interest.
A 12.0-inch digital guage cluster and 12.0-inch infotainment screen are now standard, and for the first time, a head-up display is available. The updated Wi-Fi hotspot can connect up to 10 devices.
The Pro Access Tailgate opens from the center and swings out to provide easier access to the truck bed. It features a built-in step, too.
How much does the 2024 F-150 cost?
The 2024 Ford F-150 has an MSRP of $36,570. The 2023 F-150 starts at $34,858, so the price has increased by $2,090. Also, the loaded Ford F-150 Raptor R takes the price up to $118,590. The destination fee is $1,995.
But the 2024 Toyota Tundra starts at $39,965, the 2024 Ram 1500 begins at $37,920, and the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 rings in at $36,800. So, despite the price increase, the F-150 remains competitive in the segment.
Rising costs cover the new standard tank, larger fuel tank, increased standard power, and enhanced off-roading capabilities. Stay tuned to see how the 2024 F-150 performs. We can’t wait to take it for a spin.
