Uh oh, the 2024 Ford F-150 lost its chance to compete during the North American Car of the Year (NACTOY) awards. It will not be in the top five trucks that are still competing for this prestigious award.

The 2024 Ford F-150 isn’t nominated for NACTOY

To qualify for the North American Car of The Year (NACTOY) Awards a vehicle must be brand new or significantly changed from the previous model year to compete.

The cars, trucks, and SUVs are judged by a jury of 50 automotive journalists from America and Canada. These individuals work to contribute to magazines, newspapers, websites, TV, and radio stations.

These professionals help the NACTOY Awards honor excellence in innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, user experience, driver satisfaction, and value.

For 2025, the jurors voted to narrow the long list of eligible trucks down to five. The candidates include the Ford Ranger, GMC Sierra EV, Ram 1500, Rivian R1T, and Toyota Tacoma.

The 2024 Ford F-150 is eligible to compete until it didn’t make the list of the final five trucks. Four out of five of the trucks have recently been completely remodeled.

For 2024, the F-150 received a significant mid-cycle refresh but wasn’t completely redesigned, like the Rivian R1T.

Did the 2024 F-150 come up short because it didn’t make enough changes? It made a few crucial moves to improve its value.

For example, a 12-inch touchscreen and a digital gauge cluster are now standard across the entire lineup. Plus, the F-150 hybrid price was reduced. It costs the same as trucks with the regular turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine with 400 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque.

It’s still part of the 14th generation launched in 2021. However, distinct styling upgrades give it a unique look. Some critics are still disappointed by the interior because it lacks storage space. Also, it didn’t introduce any new engine options.

The F-150 Hybrid and electric Ford F-150 Lightning have been out for quite some time while the Toyota Tacoma Hybrid, Ram 1500, and GMC Sierra EV sport brand-new powertrains.

At the end of the day, the 2024 Ford F-150 might not have enough changes to really compete. Stay tuned for the NACTOY winners.
