Trucks are starting to get weird. Some are going electric as the Ford Maverick brings attention back to compact options. The 2024 Ford Maverick exploded so fast that production can’t keep up, as it outranks every rival except for Toyota trucks. 

The Ford Maverick can’t catch Toyota trucks 

According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2024 Ford Maverick has an excellent resale value of 54%. It’s in tenth place on the top 10 list of vehicles with the best resale value for 2024. 

It beats options that didn’t make the list like the Nissan Frontier, Chevy Colorado, Ram 1500, Jeep Gladiator, Hyundai Santa Cruz, and more. 

But two Toyota trucks still outrank it. The 2024 Toyota Tundra is in fourth place with an estimated five-year resale value of 60.4%. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma landed in second place with a resale value of 62.6%. 

The vehicle with the best resale value overall is the 2024 Ford Bronco with a resale value of 66.7%. So, Ford must be feeling good, but Toyota trucks also get to high five. 

Each vehicle in the top 10 maintains its resale value 95% more than the average vehicle. An average vehicle has an estimated resale value of about 42.4% while the vehicles in the top 10 return about 59% of their worth.

This could mean that if you pay $35,000 for a new vehicle, then you could end up with an extra $6,000 after five years. That extra cheddar makes a solid difference when you decide to upgrade. 

The KBB resale values are based on the Kelley Blue Book Residual Value Guide. Statistical models analyze millions of transactions and the data is reviewed by experienced automotive analysts.  

The data set includes vehicle specifications, trims, sales volume, economic conditions, and auctions to predict how quickly vehicles will depreciate. 

Also, the Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, and Maverick are extremely different trucks built to meet the needs of various drivers. While it seems almost unfair to put them against each other, this list shows America’s obsession with pickup trucks, big and small. 

It will be interesting to see how new models like the Tesla Cybertruck compare and how the market changes.
