The 2024 Ford Maverick ST Could Finally Be in Action
The tiny Ford Maverick already does a pretty good job at filling the need for speed, but come on. Trucks can always be faster, and that’s something Ford knows. Instead of a Raptor variant, we could see the 2024 Ford Maverick ST arrive to fill the desire for a street performance truck.
Is the 2024 Ford Maverick ST happening?
Maybe, a few rumors are floating around about the 2024 Ford Maverick ST coming soon. Reportedly, Ford is working on a new special Maverick model with a lowered suspension. This indicates that we won’t see a beefier off-roading option just yet.
According to Ford Authority, a few rumors speculate that the street-performance Maverick will be lowered and ride on larger tires. We can also speculate that it will have an upgraded radiator to keep the engine cooler and a larger grille to take in more air.
Perhaps the truck will get a spoiler to become more aerodynamic. We like the idea of the Maverick ST having a launch control mode as well. Other rumors and spy photos indicate that the Maverick might gain a dual exhaust setup.
The Maverick ST would join the Ford Explorer ST as the Edge ST sees its way out. Also, Ford ‘ST’ stands for Sport-Technologies.
How fast is the Maverick?
The 2023 Ford Maverick can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in roughly 5.9 seconds with the gas-powered engine, which isexcellent for its class. The Maverick Hybrid can reach 60 mph in about 7.7 seconds.
With the Maverick Hybrid, you get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor and a battery pack to generate 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. It gets an EPA-estimated 42 mpg in the city and up to 33 mpg on the highway.
Upgrade to the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine for 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. This variant gets an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and up to 30 mpg on the highway.
The 2024 Ford Maverick ST would need extra power, which could be achieved with engine upgrades and tuning. However, the Ford Maverick PHEV might be in the works to provide more electric muscle.
It shares a lot with the Ford Escape and could borrow the Escape PHEV’s powertrain. It pairs the 2.5-liter engine with a battery pack and an electric motor to produce 221 hp, which is a 30-pony increase over the Maverick Hybrid.
But it may provide a different amount of power to account for the varying weight of the Maverick. Also, the Escape PHEV accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds, which doesn’t cut it. It gets an EPA-estimated 105 MGPe and has an electric range of 37 miles.
2024 Maverick: What’s new?
The 2024 Ford Maverick is expected to primarily be a carryover model. It just came out in 2022 and doesn’t need any modern updates. Aside from the potential Ford Maverick ST, the Maverick PHEV could arrive.
Eventually, the Maverick EV will arrive, but we don’t expect it until a bit later. It might not come out until the Maverick gets a mid-cycle refresh. Don’t get your hopes up for the Maverick Hybrid to be paired with AWD.
Ford shared that the Maverick Hybrid serves its purpose as an affordable, entry-level truck. Plus, it’s very efficient without the added weight of AWD components.
We should know more about the 2024 Maverick soon as the order banks are currently slated to open in July.
