However, to many Mustang enthusiasts’ delight, Ford confirmed that the S650 Mustang will indeed have a manual transmission recently. Here’s everything we know so far about the 2024 Ford Mustang.

Yes, the 2024 Ford Mustang will still have a V8 and a manual transmission

According to Road and Track, the 2024 Ford Mustang is already behind schedule. Leaks suggested that the S650 Mustang would debut in 2022, with orders opening in late 2023. However, thanks to supply-chain issues creating logistical and production nightmares for Ford, the reveal is now likely to come in 2023 instead. A proposed date is April 17th, as that’s the day the first Mustang was revealed at the New York World’s Fair all the way back in 1964.

Though there are no official release dates, there is some good news for Ford Mustang enthusiasts. R&T reports that both the legendary Coyote 5.0 V8 and a manual transmission are both confirmed for the S650 Mustang. However, Car and Driver suggests that Ford may implement a hybrid system with the V8. This way, Ford can continue to offer a traditional V8 powerplant and still comply with tightening emissions restrictions.

Rumor has it that Ford’s S650 Mustang will share the CD6 rear-wheel drive platform with the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator. While the body does get a full re-design, early leaked photos and drawings suggest that it will bare pretty similar design cues to the S550. This makes sense, considering Mustangs of the past (the facelift S197 and New Edge SN95) shared a lot of styling with the outgoing designs.

Various other rumors report the potential of an all-wheel drive model (which would be pretty feasible if Ford uses the CD6 platform) as well as a hybrid model based around the 2.3-liter Ecoboost engine. Additionally, R&T suggests that the 5.2-liter Predator V8 from the current GT500 will likely also make the jump. At least until 2026 emissions regulations effectively kill it.

Interior upgrades make the S650 feel a little more modern without drastic changes

Leaked photos and spy shots of prototype S650 Mustangs give a little insight into the interior.
For one, the S650 Mustang uses a flat-bottom steering wheel in place of a standard round one. Other than giving it a little bit of a race car feel and a styling update, it doesn’t do much.

On the contrary, a much larger infotainment system sits at the center of the dash. It’ll likely use Ford’s Sync 4 interface system. Additionally, the disappearance of some of the knobs and buttons beneath the vents seems to imply drivers will not handle various functions via the touchscreen. Many modern cars integrate climate control and other systems in the infotainment system, and it seems Ford is doing the same.
