The 2024 Ford Ranger just got slammed with new delays
What’s the deal with Ford vehicles and delays? First, the Ford Bronco was delayed, then the Ford Maverick had trouble with deliveries, and now the 2024 Ford Ranger is struggling to get out of the factory doors.
Why is the 2024 Ford Ranger delayed?
The 2024 Ford Ranger didn’t get off to a good production start. It was supposed to ramp up by the summer of 2023, but by March people were still waiting.
About 400 models were built in December 2023 and that number increased to 2,644 models in January 2024, and to 2,871 in February. But they were being held at the factory due to quality checks and issues.
Ford decided to provide more thorough quality checks to catch problems before its trucks were delivered to prevent the issues from snowballing into massive, frustrating recalls.
It’s unclear why the Ranger was being held, but the cause of the problem should have been corrected before these trucks finally went to dealerships.
By the late spring and summer, things were going well. In June, about 6,697 Ranger models were built and ready to roll. But that was a production decrease of 5% compared to May.
July was even worse because only 3,982 models were released. The delay could be chalked up to the summer holidays. Ford shuts some of its plants down in July for up to two weeks for a summer break around the July 4 holiday.
It’s unclear how long the Michigan plant was closed in July, so the delays could be related to other reasons. Rumors suggest that automakers are battling a new round of supply constraints after finally bouncing back after Covid.
Plus, only 2025 Ford Ranger trucks with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque and the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine with 405 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque engine for the Raptor have been built.
Where are the models with the available turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 engine with 315 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque? Are they being held due to a quality issue that needs to be corrected?
