Civic vs. Accord: Passenger and cargo space 

The 2024 Honda Accord is larger than the 2024 Honda Civic. As a result, it provides more interior space. Both cars can seat up to five people, but the Accord has a total passenger volume of 105.7 cu-ft, while the Civic has 99.0 cu-ft

For the sedan models, the Accord offers more storage space in the trunk — with 16.7 cu-ft, compared to 14.8 cu-ft for the Civic. However, the Civic Hatchback provides the most storage space of all, with a maximum cargo capacity of 24.5 cu-ft.

The cabin of the Accord is more upscale than in the Civic, though. While it’s a mainstream sedan, the Accord has luxury car elements, particularly for the higher trim levels.

Both vehicles are safe, but the Accord has the advantage. It earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This is the highest honor from IIHS. On the other hand, the Civic received the second-tier Top Safety Pick award.

Both cars are also reliable, with “great” dependability ratings from J.D. Power. However, the Accord has a slight edge there, too. J.D. Power gave it a reliability score of 83/100, compared to 80/100 for the Civic.

For engines, the standard 2024 Honda Civic offers a 2.0-liter four-cylinder (158 horsepower) and a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder (180 horsepower). There’s also another variant of the turbo 1.5-liter in the Civic Si, which generates 200 horsepower. Additionally, for the pinnacle of Civic performance, the Type R hatchback model features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which doles out 315 horsepower.

Furthermore, Honda will bring back the Civic Hybrid for the 2024 model year. While its specs are not available, Car and Driver expects the output of the Hybrid to range between 180 and 200 horsepower. 

In comparison, the 2024 Honda Accord has two powertrain options. Its turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine generates 192 horsepower, while its hybrid powertrain delivers 204 horsepower. 

Additionally, with its smaller size and tighter turning radius, the Civic is more maneuverable than the Accord. This helps with parking, driving through traffic, backing up, and cornering.

Civic vs. Accord: Fuel economy

On the efficiency front, the Accord gets an estimated fuel economy of up to 29 city/37 highway mpg for the fully gas-powered model and 51 city/44 highway mpg for the Hybrid. In comparison, the Civic has an estimated gas mileage of up to 33 city/42 highway mpg for the fully gas-powered model. We’ll have to see what the efficiency ratings are for the Civic Hybrid, though.

Civic vs. Accord: Warranty

The Civic and Accord have the same warranty coverage. Both are backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. They also have a free maintenance plan, with two years or 24,000 miles of coverage.
