Consumers like the Honda CR-V, one of the most popular SUV models being produced for Honda. The base version is the most affordable, but is it really the best option? We compare the LX entry-level with what we feel is the best choice to see how realistic the 2024 Honda CR-V price tag is for the base.

What you can expect for the 2024 Honda CR-V price for the base model

Honda’s LX model (base) starts at $29,500. For this price, you get full LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, and a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 190 hp. Paired with it is a continuously variable automatic transmission, according to Honda. You also get a three-mode driving system, which includes normal driving, snow, and Econ mode selections.

For the interior of the 2024 Honda CR-V, the brand offers cloth seating, push-button start, a seven-inch infotainment screen, a front USB port, and automatic climate control as well as safety features like a road departure mitigation system, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and lane-keeping assistance. 

Which Honda CR-V should you choose?

While the base model offers enough for many consumers, the most affordable Honda CR-V is really the Sport Hybrid, which begins at $33,350. This version offers a hybrid powertrain that produces a total of 204 hp and is paired with an E-CVT.

With this model, you get many of the same features as the base, but it also offers items such as 18-inch wheels, a four-mode driving system with a Sport selection added, and dual chrome exhaust finishes. For the interior, you get cloth seating, dual-zone automatic climate control, a multi-angle rearview camera, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a one-touch power moonroof. 

When it comes to driver assistance features, the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid offers the same as the base with a few additions. Those include a Blind-Spot Information System, a Cross-Traffic Monitor, and an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System. 

As for extras, we would recommend:

If you add the $1,325 destination charges, the total price would be $39,443 with all the packages and accessories listed. 

How does the base price compare to the recommended model?

Obviously, the base model is the most affordable, but the 2024 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid offers a few more items for a bit more price. At this rate, you would pay about $10,000 more for the hybrid powertrain. But, if you chose the same packages and accessories to add to the base, you would pay approximately $36,018. 

That makes the Sport Hybrid just a little over $3,000 more than the LX version. Is it worth it? We think so because of the fuel economy ratings alone. For the base model, you get 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway when you choose the front-wheel drive version. On the AWD model, you get 27 mpg on city roads and 32 mpg when traveling on the highway.

For the Sport Hybrid version, you can get up to 40 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway when you choose the AWD model. However, if you don’t need the all-wheel drivetrain, you gain a little more with 43 mpg on city roads and 36 mpg when traveling on the highway. 

Plus, you get larger wheels, better climate control, and heated front seats. You also get a few more driver assistance features with your hybrid purchase. 

The 2024 Honda CR-V offers a decent amount of features for an entry-level vehicle. But upgrading to the Sport Hybrid model will get you a bit more features and better gas mileage for only a few thousand more.
