2024 Honda Prologue EV: What We Expect for Honda’s First Electric SUV

Compared to other automakers, Honda is late to the EV party. However, the Japanese automaker is on track to release its first all-electric SUV: the 2024 Honda Prologue EV, which comes from a collaboration with General Motors. When is the 2024 Honda Prologue coming out?
We expect the 2024 Honda Prologue EV SUV to hit roads in early 2024. We’ll know more once the electric SUV makes its debut, slated for late 2023. The 2024 Prologue will be available at Honda dealerships throughout the United States, as well as in select international markets.
Through its partnership with GM, the Honda Prologue will initially be built at one of GM’s plants in Michigan.
How much is the 2024 Honda Prologue expected to cost?
Honda didn’t yet release the price information of the 2024 Prologue EV SUV. However, Car and Driver estimates that the 2024 Prologue will have a starting cost of $45,000. The automotive site also gave an estimated starting price breakdown of potential possible Prologue trims, following Honda’s traditional LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring trim levels:
- LX: $45,000
- EX: $48,000
- EX-L: $51,000
- Touring: $55,000
2024 Prologue specs: GM’s Ultium platform
Honda didn’t yet reveal many details about the electric powertrain in the 2024 Prologue. However, we do know that it will have the Ultium platform that’s featured in GM’s electric vehicles, such as the Cadillac LYRIQ crossover SUV, Chevy Silverado EV pickup truck, and GMC Hummer EV SUV. Like its closest competitor, Toyota, Honda has been stubbornly slow to develop electric vehicles. Until it can fully develop EVs on its own, Honda will rely on the expertise of GM.
The most comparable GM electric vehicle to the Honda Prologue is the Cadillac LYRIQ. It offers a standard rear-mounted electric motor and an available all-wheel drive version with an electric motor for both the front and rear axle. The single-motor rear-wheel drive LYRIQ generates 340 horsepower, while the dual-motor all-wheel drive version produces 500 hp. Also, the battery pack of the LYRIQ has a 100.0-kWh capacity, with an estimated driving range of up to 312 miles.
It’s unknown if the Prologue will have similar specs as the LYRIQ. However, since the Prologue will likely have a similar size and weight as the LYRIQ — and use the same Ultium platform, we can infer that the specs will probably be similar as well. Also, like the LYRIQ, the Prologue will undoubtedly have DC fast-charging capabilities.
Honda Prologue design: What does it look like?
Honda recently released a teaser image of the 2024 Prologue. While GM will handle the mechanical and production aspects of the Prologue, Honda is in charge of its design. The Prologue was “designed at the Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles in collaboration with a Honda design team in Japan.”
For the exterior styling, Honda states that the Prologue “represents the clean, simple and timeless values of the global Honda design direction, together with a long wheelbase, shorter overhang, and a strong stance outfitted with a capable tire.” Honda didn’t yet release any images or details about the Prologue’s interior, though.
