Many automakers have embraced the electric future in the last few years. American automakers Stellantis, Ford, and General Motors are all looking toward an electric future and electrifying portfolios. Big changes are coming, and automakers are leaning into their strengths to entice buyers. Jeep is known for producing capable off-road SUVs. What better way to convince Jeep buyers to go electric than to create a lean, mean electric off-roading machine? Is the 2024 Jeep Recon the future of Jeep off-road SUVs?

What’s the best reason to buy a Jeep SUV? Is it fuel economy? Affordability perhaps? Nah. The real reason that most automotive enthusiasts buy Jeep SUVs is because of their unique off-road capabilities. Jeep produces some of the gnarliest off-road vehicles on the market, and the automaker is proud of it.

The Wrangler is the brand’s most popular model. The Jeep Wrangler has had its fair share of reliability issues. Some experts even call the Wrangler antiquated. Buyers love the Wrangler because it has delivered predictable off-road mastery for over three decades.

Even Jeep’s larger SUV models like the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer offer some off-roading prowess. The upcoming 2024 Jeep Recon is right up Jeep’s alley. The fully-electric SUV will be closest to the Wrangler in size and promises to deliver off-road capability that’s tough to compete with. Expect impressive ground clearance and great approach and departure angles from the electric off-road SUV. Jeep will likely offer the Recon in an even more capable off-road trim that adds a suspension upgrade, skid plates, and off-road tires.

Why should you be excited about the 2024 Jeep Recon?

The 2024 Jeep Recon is exciting because of its off-roading potential. Electric vehicles have proven to be incredible off-road because they deliver torque to wheels quicker than gas-powered vehicles, thanks to their electric powertrains.

The Jeep Recon is also exciting because it is closely related to the Wrangler. The Jeep Wrangler has a long history of off-roading excellence. Consumers should expect the same excellence from the Recon because Jeep aims to impress. The Jeep Recon is likely to become the most popular Jeep EV in America because of its size. The Jeep Avenger is a European exclusive (for now), and the Jeep Wagoneer S will be larger and more expensive than the Recon.

It doesn’t seem like the industry will get an electric Jeep Wrangler, but the Jeep Recon is the next best thing. The small electric SUV model is the next step in Jeep’s push toward a fully-electric portfolio of vehicles.

What should you expect from the Jeep Recon?

The Jeep Recon will feature removable doors and windows. It will have a one-touch power removable top. Expect the Recon to bear a strong resemblance to the Wrangler, but have more advanced standard tech and better standard features.

The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe starts at $54,765. Since electric vehicles are usually more expensive than plug-in hybrids, the Jeep Recon could start at over $60,000. Car and Driver expects the Recon in 2024.
