The 2024 Kia EV9 Is Bigger Than It Looks
We know the 2024 Kia EV9 is on its way. The all-electric SUV has three rows, but because it’s electric and can be packaged better, Kia is expecting it to take on the full-sized three-row SUVs like the 2023 GMC Yukon instead of mid-sized SUVs. Though its outside dimensions won’t scream, “Full-sized SUV,” its interior will.
The EV9 will be full-sized on the inside
The Concept EV9 measures 194 inches in length, 81 inches in width, 70 inches in height, and has a wheelbase of 122 inches. Compared to a GMC Yukon, it’s 16 inches shorter but about the same width. A lot of that length, however, is in the Yukon’s engine bay which will be frunk, or front trunk, in the EV9. The EV9 has a longer wheelbase, too, which could contribute to a more stable highway ride.
The production EV9 is nearing production and has seating for eight, but we expect captain’s chairs in the second row to be an option on higher-level trims. Speaking of top-level trims, Kia’s first autonomous driving option, AutoMode, will be launched in the 2024 Kia EV9.
How much does the Kia EV9 cost?
The 2023 Kia EV9 should start at about $50,000. That’s quite a bit more than Kia’s popular Telluride SUV, which starts at about $33,000. But, that puts it at about $2,500 cheaper than a full-sized GMC Yukon.
The all-electric SUV delivers a driving range of up to 330 miles. It also features next-generation ultra-fast charging technology with a 350-kW charger that allows its advanced battery-electric powertrain to replenish energy from 10% to 80% in 20-30 minutes. Kia promises 62 miles of range on a six-minute charge.
Kia expects the EV9 to compete with full-sized SUVs
A Kia executive told Automotive News that the EV9 will compete with the full-size SUV segment, even though it has a smaller footprint. That’s because the EV9 can make better use of interior space than a similar gas-powered SUV. The skateboard type of EV platform the EV9 uses has a flat floor and isn’t hampered by a driveline running through the floor.
Like a full-sized SUV, the EV9 is expected to have four-wheel drive and even towing capability akin to its smaller brother the EV6.
Kia is all-in on new EVs like Kia EV6
Kia already sells two battery-electric videos, the stylish EV6, and the affordable Niro. The EV6 has been a
The Niro is expected to be updated for 2023 with a better range and more performance. The EV9 is built on the same platform as the EV6 but stretched to accommodate the third row in the back. But overall Kia is planning 14 new battery-electric vehicles for global markets by 2027, including at least one pickup truck. Kia is aiming to sell 1.2 million BEVs annually by 2030.
