The 2024 Kia EV9 Is the Perfect Escape Pod for Families
Tell the Kia Telluride to watch out because the Kia EV9 is coming in hot. It had an electrifying debut at the New York Auto Show, and we took the time to get up close and personal with the new three-row family option. A few unique features help the 2024 Kia EV9 stand out as the perfect family SUV.
How much range does the 2024 Kia EV9 have?
The 2024 Kia EV9 starts things off with standard 76.1-kWh battery pack and 215 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. It could feature a range of up to 220 miles. Upgrading to the 99.8-kWh battery pack and dual motors provides 379 hp and an estimated 300-mile range.
This is more than enough range for daily driving and unexpected errands. Plus, the EV9 uses Kia’s 800-volt charging architecture. So, with a DC faster charger, about 149 miles of range can be added in 15 minutes.
On trips, that 15 minutes could be used for feedings, changing diapers, getting a quick bite to eat, walking the dog, and more.
Some people may be bummed because the standard model takes 8.2 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. But that’s adequate for merging into traffic and will keep the base model affordable for families.
The 2024 EV9 was designed with families in mind. It’s not a sports car. However, long-range models can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in nearly 5.3 seconds.
How much cargo space does the 2024 EV9 have?
The 2023 Kia EV9 is slightly larger than the Kia Telluride. It provides 20.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and up to 81.9 cubs overall. The seats fold flat, and you can opt for the available power-folding third row.
Because the EV9 doesn’t have a traditional gear shifter, there’s tons of extra space around the center console. The dual-level floating center console has a retractable storage tray for front passengers. It also has a sliding bin for passengers in the second row.
If you need more space, the EV9 can tow up to 5,000 lbs. This isn’t far behind the Telluride that can tow up to 5.500 lbs. Also, Kia shared that the EV9 is available with AWD. It has driving modes for Normal, Eco, Sport, and My Mode.
Also, the 2024 EV9 provides tons of passenger space. The second and third rows can recline at the same time. The second-row seats have enough space to swivel around and face the rear.
The first and second rows have a Relaxation mode that includes power leg rests, heated seats, and ventilation. Plus, high-powered USB-C ports are located all over the cabin.
The EV9 is smart and safe
The 2024 Kia EV9 has dual 12.4-inch displays and an available head-up display. It’s full of Integrated Charging Control Units that can charge external devices and has a standard digital key.
You can unlock, lock, and drive the vehicle with Apple and Samsung devices. Plus, you can share the digital keys with family and friends. You will retain control of their access and settings.
Standard safety features include the lidar-based Highway Driving Assist 2 system, lane following assist, 10 airbags, forward collision avoidance with cross path detection, blind spot warning, lane keeping assist, intelligent speed limit assist, safe exit assist, and smart cruise control with stop and go.
The Kia EV9 feels like an excellent family SUV because it’s expected to be affordable, provides tons of cargo space, keeps everyone comfortable, provides modern tech, has fast charging times, and advanced safety software.
