You aren’t alone if you think that the Kia Telluride is too big. That’s why smaller models, like the Kia Sorento, exist. However, the Sorento is about to borrow a few features from the Telluride and Sportage for crucial improvements. Check out what to expect with the 2024 Kia Sorento.
The 2024 Kia Sorento is a mini Kia Telluride
Spy shots of the 2024 Kia Sorento are finally starting to emerge. The SUV is heavily covered under camouflage, but we can still gather a few clues about the redesign. For example, it’s getting boxier.
It has more of a confident, upright stance, like the Kia Telluride. The hood and roof both have straighter edges. Plus, the grille looks flat across the front and larger. It seems to be paired with vertical headlights similar to the Telluride.
The rear end could get vertical taillights and a more aggressive bumper as well. Overall, the refreshed Sorento looks more rugged and capable. It’s possible that it could be paired with new skid plates and all-terrain tires for a beefier X-Line model.
How much power will the 2024 Sorento have?
The 2024 Kia Sorento is expected to receive a mid-cycle refresh, even though it’s getting a brand-new look. As a result, the new model could have the current powertrain options. But it will arrive in Korea before it comes to America.
The standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine cranks out 191 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine for 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.
With the turbocharged option, the Sorento can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.7 seconds. It’s faster than the Honda Pilot.
Also, the Kia Sorento Hybrid 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an electric motor to generate 227 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It gets an EPA-estimated 39 mpg in the city and up to 35 mpg on the highway.
Don’t forget about the Kia Sorento PHEV, which adds a second electric motor to provide 261 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque. It has an EPA-estimated 32 miles of electric range.
When properly equipped, the Sorento can tow up to 3,500 lbs. We would like to see a little extra power to match rivals like the Toyota Highlander that can tow up to 5,000 lbs.
Will the 2024 Sorento have a new interior?
Yes, the 2024 Kia Sorento is getting a refreshed interior design. Blankets cover most of the upholstery in the spy shots, but the bucket seats and cloth remind us of what’s inside the Kia Sportage.
Plus, the biggest changes are expected to be related to the digital gauge cluster, and the infotainment screen that will be connected by one screen that spans across the dashboard.
This layout is attractive and functional in the Sportage and Kia EV6. But, the layout could benefit from more physical controls.
It’s possible that the 2024 Sorento will have bigger screens with a higher resolution. That would enhance the optional 360-degree display for off-roading and navigating around tight obstacles.
