The Lexus LC 500 is one of our favorite cars in the automotive market. For the price, it’s hard to beat the LC 500’s performance and style. However, we have to admit that the car isn’t perfect. In fact, for the 2024 model year, Lexus fixed one big issue in the LC 500 and also added a special trim.

Lexus has been phasing out the infotainment trackpad in its cars for the past few years, and the LC 500 will receive the same treatment later this year. The trackpad sits in the center console next to the shifter in the current model, and its main function is controlling the infotainment screen. As you can imagine, it’s cumbersome to use, especially while driving.

To be honest, we didn’t mind it much when we last drove the 2021 Lexus LC 500, but it is a nuisance. Since then, we have been fortunate enough to drive most of the new models in Lexus’ line and can say that the new touchscreen infotainment system is much easier to use.

In addition to phasing out the trackpad in the LC 500, Lexus upgraded its infotainment screen size from 10 inches to 12.3 inches. The screen will also be 3.4 inches closer to the front seat occupants to make better use of its touchscreen capability. Additionally, Lexus upgraded the LC 500’s infotainment system to use 100 different commands, which are prompted by simply saying, “Hey, Lexus.”

The Drive notes that Lexus didn’t simply swap the infotainment screens and call it a day. The center console switches are laid out longitudinally, there’s a new aluminum volume knob, and Apple CarPlay is now wireless (Android Auto is not).

The 2024 LC 500 receives more updates and an “ultimate edition” trim

In addition to the new infotainment system, Lexus updated the LC 500’s Safety System +. It can now detect pedestrians, bikes, and other cars and brake accordingly. The system can even steer the car to keep in between the lines and slow down when the posted speed limit drops.

Lexus also upgraded the LC 500’s suspension components, which include better shocks, springs, and underbody braces.

One of the most unique updates, though, is the addition of the “Ultimate Edition,” which features a Hakugin White paint job with a matte finish that’s inspired by Japanese porcelain. The special edition also gets integrated bumper canards and a Kachi-Blue interior, which is allegedly inspired by samurai armor.

The 2024 Lexus LC 500 should show up later this year

Although Lexus has not disclosed a formal debut date for the 2024 LC 500, we expect to see them in dealerships later this year. However, the production for the Ultimate Edition starts in September 2023 for the European markets, so it will likely appear on U.S. shores sometime next year.
