The 2024 Mazda3 is Getting a Heap of New Tech
We already love the Mazda3, but it looks like the 2024 version is going to improve on this already-excellent formula. Updates for the Japanese version of the Mazda compact hint at what’s coming for the U.S. version. Right now, that’s looking like a load of new tech features and not much else.
The 2024 Mazda3 gets a significantly larger display
Based upon changes to the Japanese-market models, the 2024 Mazda3 we get in the U.S. should be available with a larger infotainment screen. As of today, the mighty Mazda compact features an 8.8-inch central display that is set into the dash. However, future models will up that display size to 10.3 inches.
What we don’t yet know is whether the upgraded display will be standard or optional on 2024 Mazda3 models. Today, Mazda’s smallest car has just one display size across the board. However, the CX-50 offers two different display options, so the upgraded Mazda3 screen may become a top-tier perk rather than standard kit.
More convenience tech coming to the new Mazda compact
Also indicated for 2024 is the addition of a wireless charging pad to new Mazda3 models. Currently, the Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra both offer this feature in their upper-echelon trims. Given Mazda’s goal of being an upscale affordable brand, it’s a must that the Mazda3 include this feature somewhere within the lineup.
While some deride wireless phone charging as a gimmicky feature, those who drive often appreciate the convenience. In addition, this added convenience ups the luxury quotient for the Japanese brand as it continues to build a reputation for premium quality.
Other tech upgrades include a USB-C charging port that falls in line with most modern devices. That charge point is illuminated for easier nighttime viewing and should be standard on all new Mazda3 models in 2024.
An update to driver assistance technology
One area where Mazda has fallen behind its competition is driver assistance. That should be changing with the 2024 Mazda3. Early indications from Japan hint that the new 3 offers both front and rear pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking. Furthermore, driver attention monitoring is included on Japanese Mazda3 models for 2024, and we expect the same stateside.
Expanded remote app features
Currently, the MyMazda app can lock and unlock doors as well as start the engine from your smartphone. New for 2024, drivers will be able to monitor the vehicle from afar, even when someone else is driving. The tech will help parents keep an eye on the young drivers in the family and may help owners track stolen vehicles as well.
When will the 2024 Mazda3 arrive?
We don’t currently know when the 2024 Mazda3 will make it to U.S. showrooms. Car and Driver reached out to Mazda representatives, but they offered no confirmation other than stating that information is coming soon.
For now, we can just look toward the Japanese Mazda3 to see what we might get and wait for an official release sometime this summer.
