2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV vs. 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70: Is the Badge Worth Your Money?
Electric luxury SUVs are fairly new to the automotive market, but the category is filling up quickly. Two exceptional entrants are the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV and the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70. Those are two really long names, but they’re fitting, considering how much the electric Genesis and Mercedes-Benz EV SUVs offer.
I have had a chance to drive both of these electrified vehicles and noticed some similarities and differences. However, the Mercedes costs far more than the Genesis – but is the fancy badge worth the extra money?
2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV vs. 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70: Powertrains
Both of these SUV EVs come with a dual-motor system with a motor up front and one between the rear axles. That means they’re both AWD, but the Mercedes-Benz EV has much more power. The Mercedes-AMG EQE puts out 617 hp and 701 lb-ft of torque, while the Genesis generates 429 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.
That’s nearly 200 fewer ponies getting sent to the ground, but amazingly, the Genesis felt almost as quick on the road. I would attribute it to its lower curb weight. Both cars had tricks up their sleeves, though.
The Genesis Electrified GV70 has a “boost” button on its steering wheel, which boosts the power up to 489 for five seconds. The Mercedes-AMG EQE has a “race start” function, which amps its power rating up to 677 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque.
That’s an insane amount of power for both of these cars and completely unnecessary for street use. That said, I preferred the Electrified GV70’s power delivery and boost button over the Mercedes.

Ask anyone who has sat in a Genesis, and they will likely gush about how great its interior is. Some may even call it “Mercedes-like.” I wouldn’t blame them because I thought the same thing. The GV70’s interior, for instance, is well laid out and elegant.
There’s leather and plenty of soft-touch surfaces everywhere, and its overall minimalist design is eye-pleasing. The Mercedes-AMG EQE, on the other hand, has a similarly elegant and minimalist design. However, its touch points and material qualities are a step above the GV70’s.

Although the Genesis GV70 is fitted with all the tech features you could want, including a premium audio system, heated/ventilated seats, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto – it still can’t beat the Mercedes.
The Mercedes-AMG EQE comes standard with the 56-inch Hyperscreen that places a large infotainment system in the middle, along with a screen for the driver and passenger. Its Burmeister audio system is top-notch, and it even has A.I. software built in. Simply saying, “Hey Mercedes,” and then giving a command makes it easy to turn on features like the HVAC controls and seat functions.
Additionally, although the Genesis GV70’s LED lighting looks really cool at night, the Mercedes’ lights look even cooler.
2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV vs. 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70: Electric range
The Mercedes-AMG EQE is slated to get up to 250 miles on a single charge, while the Genesis Electrified GV70 can travel up to 236 miles. In the real world, considering there are many variables, the difference in mileage between the two cars is negligible. I would say they run out of juice in a similar amount of time, so it’s a tie here.
2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV vs. 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70: Is the extra money worth it?
A fully loaded 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 will set you back around $75,000, and a loaded Mercedes-AMG EQE can cost up to $130,000. Is that extra $55,000 worth it? If you really need to get to 60 mph one second faster and like to feel a little more luxurious, then maybe it is.
However, for my money, I would say that Genesis is luxurious enough for its price point and provides a far better value. But then again, it’s hard to argue with Mercedes’s craftsmanship. So, it all depends on how far your wallet can stretch. The Mercedes-Benz EV may be worth it to some.
