Subaru’s Crosstrek broke into the scene for the 2012 model year, molding the subcompact crossover segment in its likeness for the next decade. After 12 model years, Subaru continues to work toward perfecting its famous formula. The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek arrives with a slew of exciting updates, from updated looks to new technology. But one notable omission may disappoint some Subaru enthusiasts.
Updated looks keep the Crosstrek fresh
The most apparent 2024 Crosstrek updates are its new looks. Subaru hasn’t drastically departed from the previous generation’s styling, but a few notable flourishes are enough to draw fresh eyes.
Subaru has narrowed the headlamp casings and broadened the Crosstrek’s grille. Squared-off wheel arches along the side continue the crossover’s more aggressive appearance. Perhaps the most substantial change is the heavy use of black body molding. The Crosstrek has always used black body molding to help differentiate itself from the Impreza. Yet the 2024 model leans into the look even more.
As usual, appearance updates to a popular model will likely split opinions. But Subaru has taken a meaningful step forward for a staple of its lineup.
Safety tech updates cement Subaru’s safety reputation
Subaru has staked its reputation on safety for decades. With the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek updates, the OEM only doubles down on its philosophy.
Consumer Reports states that the 2024 Crosstrek will get the newest EyeSight Driver Assist Technology version as standard equipment. That means all new Crosstreks include Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking. Other optional safety tech includes automatic emergency steering, blind spot warning, and lane-keeping assistance.
Subaru will build certain 2024 Crosstrek trims in the U.S.
Many drivers care deeply about manufacturing origin, with some preferring vehicles built stateside. Those folks will be pleased to learn that Subaru will assemble two popular Crosstrek trims in the U.S.
Subaru has manufactured models in the U.S. for years. But up until now, almost every Crosstrek originated in Japan. That changes for the 2024 model year. According to Consumer Reports, Subaru will manufacture the 2024 Crosstrek Sport and 2024 Crosstrek Limited in Indiana. Other trims will continue to originate in Japanese factories.
Manual Crosstrek is laid to rest
Alas, another stick-shift model pushes daisies for the U.S. market. Much to the chagrin of auto enthusiasts, Subaru will only offer the 2024 Crosstrek with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This decision ends the Crosstrek’s run as one of the only subcompact crossovers with an available six-speed manual gearbox.
The move isn’t surprising, considering manual transmissions comprise only single-digit sales percentages yearly in the U.S. While Subaru’s CVT will undoubtedly work to maximize fuel efficiency, some drivers will mourn another lost opportunity to row their own gears.
How Much Does the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Cost?
In a surprise move, Subaru states that the 2024 Crosstrek will start at the same price as the outgoing 2023 model – the cheapest Subaru SUV at the time. Despite a complete refresh, the 2024 Crosstrek will have a base price of $24,995.
Subaru has pushed the Crosstrek nameplate forward with new tech and new looks. Drivers can judge the compact crossover for their selves when it hits dealer lots this spring.
