Central to the ‘Rex is a turbo 2.4-liter flat-four boxer engine. Producing 271 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, the energetic mill offers ripping acceleration and classic sounds. Buyers can choose from a six-speed manual or a CVT for driving involvement or smooth efficiency.
Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD provides traction and stability across a range of conditions. The product of decades of rally racing, the setup can handle the circuit or street with ease. A motorsports-inspired track-tuned suspension also offers razor-sharp turn-in and flat cornering.
Inside, the WRX has a modern, function-first interior. A thick, flat-bottom steering wheel offers a steady grip during high-speed corners. Carbon-fiber accents set a racy mood. And a touchscreen infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Like any new vehicle, more expensive trims offer elevated tech and luxury. Going from the Base to the GT brings extras like push-button driving modes, Recaro seats, and a larger touchscreen. But even then, there’s something missing.

The 2024 Subaru WRX TR adds upgraded hardware for enhanced dynamics. With its understated styling, the TR is a more low-key ride than the wild STIs of old.
As Car and Driver reports, the TR trim adds a Brembo braking system, with monoblock six-piston calipers up front and two-piston units in the rear. The setup also features larger pads, rotors, and a bigger master cylinder.
Unique 19-inch wheels are modern and racy, denoting the TR’s special nature. An upgraded suspension system uses stiffer springs and retuned dampers for flat cornering and control under braking. And a revised steering rack enhances accuracy, as noted by MotorTrend.
Inside, sports seats from noted manufacturer Recaro bring unparalleled support during spirited drives. Like any true performance car, the WRX TR removes every last ounce of weight, deleting the power moonroof in the process. Subaru went all-out.
The strong turbo 2.4-liter flat-four continues in the TR, albeit with a six-speed manual transmission only. For such a focused design, that only makes sense.
Additionally, unlike past WRX STIs, the TR doesn’t use bold styling elements, like a giant rear wing. That makes for a subtle appearance and may appeal to a broader audience.
The standard Subaru WRX is plenty good. However, the 2024 WRX TR is a track-ready performer with top-end equipment. With turbo power and AWD, the top-trim ‘Rex is fast and versatile. Tuned suspension and monoblock brakes enhance handling. And Recaro seats look right out of a race car. For WRX buyers who want something with more of an edge, the TR model is the way to go.
