2024 Toyota 4Runner Receives Price Increase, No Redesign, and No Major Changes
If you were hoping for significant changes with the Toyota SUV redesign, you are not in luck. Toyota quietly launched the 2024 Toyota 4Runner yesterday without many changes to note. This article might be longer if we listed the things that remained the same. There is no 2024 4Runner redesign, no hybrid powertrain at this point, and no fundamental changes except a price increase.
What is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner price?
One thing there is to discuss is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner price increase. Below are all trim levels (minus the 40th Anniversary Edition) with the 2023 4Runner and 2024 4Runner prices. Toyota increased all trim levels by $300, and the 40th Anniversary is gone.
2024 Toyota 4Runner Trim | 2023 MSRP | 2024 MSRP |
SR5 | $40,155 | $40,455 |
TRD Sport | $43,015 | $43,315 |
Premium | $43,215 | $43,515 |
TRD Off-Road | $44,00 | $44,300 |
TRD Off-Road Premium | $46,580 | $46,880 |
Limited | $49,390 | $49,690 |
TRD Pro | $53,620 | $54,920 |
Even if $300 isn’t a lot, it is still a price increase without any real changes or reason for it. The TRD Pro has seen a significant increase over the past few years, up $6,985 over a few years ago. A 2019 4Runner TRD Pro was $47,935, which seems like a bad dream. The base model started at $38,490 in 2019, a $1,965 change. It certainly prices a lot of fans out of the realm of ever owning the new 4Runner. We can’t afford peanut butter, and we can’t afford a Toyota 4Runner, either.
What’s new with the 2024 Toyota 4Runner?
The 2024 Toyota 4Runner receives a new exterior color paint called Terra. Toyota calls this an earth-tone paint, but think ‘brick.’ There will also be another color called Underground available on the 2024 4Runner. Toyota says this version of the midsize SUV is the most capable and comfortable.
Some notable changes from the press release include the standard Multi-Terrain Monitor on the TRD Pro for this year. This system was a highlight when we tested the Sequoia TRD Pro a few months ago. The TRD Sport adds the Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS) for better handling on the road.
The automaker notes that all 2024 4Runner SUVs get the newest Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) version. That adds Lane Departure Alert, a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Automatic High Beams. Those might be the only changes. If you have been waiting for a major redesign like some people, this is not it.
Does the 2024 4Runner get a different engine?
The 2024 4Runner uses the same 4.0L V6 engine with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. All models have a towing maximum of 5,000 pounds for 2024, but the fuel economy remains at 16 mpg city and 19 mpg highway. This was one of the most popular questions about the new 4Runner, and now there is an answer. It might be an unwanted answer, but it is here.
The Toyota 4Runner is like a celebrity in the world of SUVs; the lack of redesign is a slight scandal. Everyone has been talking about the currently unreleased shadowy figure in the new Toyota Land Cruiser promos, which was thought to be the new 4Runner. Will there even be a new 4Runner? It seems like there is so much going on with Toyota SUVs that this midsize option is almost an afterthought.
Even without a redesign, Toyota has sold more than 70,000 4Runner units this year alone. Does that mean there is no need for a redesign since people are interested anyway? We won’t even hazard a guess at this point. Were you waiting for a 2024 4Runner? Commiserate with us in the comments.
