What to expect with the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander 

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander is growing, literally. It will be a larger SUV with more passenger and cargo space, which is desperately needed in the regular Toyota Highlander. While the Highlander is an excellent three-row SUV, it’s a bit snug. 

The Highlander has one of the smallest third-row seats in the segment. Rivals like the Ford Escape, Honda Pilot, and even the Mazda CX-9 have more room in the rear. Plus, it’s difficult for kids to climb back there. 

On top of that, the Highlander only offers 16.0 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and up to 84.3 cubes in total. The 2023 Pilot provides 22.4 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear with up to 113.67 cubes overall. 

Now the Grand Highlander is coming to challenge rivals by expanding its space. According to MotorTrend, it’s a larger SUV that’s designed to enhance family road trips, especially for those in the third row. 

How much power will the 2024 Grand Highlander have? 

The official specs for the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander haven’t been released, but teaser images suggest that it’s coming with hybrid power. On the liftgate, you can spot a “Hybrid MAX” badge. 

It could borrow the same powertrain from the Toyota Highlander Hybrid. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to generate 243 hp, which sounds fine on paper. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.2 seconds. 

This is an average amount of speed, and it’s perfectly fine for passing others on the highway and merging into traffic. But it’s not exactly exciting, and the Highlander could be more athletic. 

Also, it could gain the hybrid MAX powertrain from the 2023 Toyota Sequioa. It has a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 engine and an electric motor to churn out 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.0 seconds. 

The Grand Highlander will ride on the TNGA-K platform like the existing model does. The Sequoia uses the TNGA-F platform, though. 

How big is the 2024 Grand Highlander? 

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander is expected to slot between the Toyota Highlander and the Toyota Sequoia. It will be bigger than the regular Highlander, but possibly smaller and less rugged than the Sequoia. 

It will make its debut on February 8, 2023. So, we will get a better look soon. It’s designed to rival the Kia Telluride, not the Ford Explorer. Also, the teaser images show a Platinum badge, which is the title of the top-spec Highlander trim. 

This indicates that the Toyota Grand Highlander will provide a high level of luxury and comfort. But we’re nervous about pricing. The current Highlander starts at $36,420, while the Kia Telluride begins at around $35,690.
