Toyota estimates the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser should get 27 mpg. However, all we have for the moment is the manufacturer’s estimates. As we all know, this could easily change. OK. This estimation isn’t a complete shock. The 2024 Land Cruiser is smaller, probably lighter, and will have a hybrid engine. It’s just such a relief to know that one of the coolest 4×4 nameplates in the game could give us gas mileage like that.
These numbers were first seen on TFLTruck, which claims that Toyota’s US website confirms the estimated gas mileage of the Land Cruiser, yet we can’t find these numbers claimed anywhere.
What engine will the 2024 Land Cruiser have?
The new Cruiser will get a 2.4-liter inline-four combustion engine paired with an electric motor and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The 2024 Land Cruiser rides on the same TNGA-F platform that underpins the Lexus GX.
Before you get too worried about the Land Cruiser getting a hybrid four-pot, this new motor is said to make 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. I believe that dog will hunt.
For the Land Cruiser to make this much power and still offer 27 mpg would be quite an accomplishment. If we compare the LC to its competitors you’ll see just how impressive this would be if the estimations are accurate. A model like the Ford Bronco Badlands with by the four-cylinder 2.3-liter engine gets an EPA-rated combined fuel economy of 17 MPG, while the Land Rover Defender 110 with the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gets 18 MPG combined, according to the EPA. Not to mention, neither of these SUVs are making as much power as the Land Cruiser.
The Jeep Wrangler 4Xe is probably the better comparison, given the more similar powerplant. The 4Xe claims 20 mpg, but with the plug-in hybrid part on full charge, the Jeep gets closer to 49 MPGe.
When will the new Land Cruiser be available?
According to Toyota, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser will arrive on our soil in the Spring of 2024.
There is much excitement around the Land Cruiser, and it’s easy to see why. The new gas mileage estimation is only one aspect of what makes this truck’s return so exciting.
