The 2024 Toyota RAV4 Struggles With a Declining Reliability Rating
We’re here to check on the Toyta RAV4 again. We know it’s like we can’t stay away. But it’s Toyota’s most popular SUV, and when you think of Toyota, you think about its reputation for solid reliability. However, the 2024 Toyota RAV4 is slipping.
How reliable is the 2024 Toyota RAV4?
According to J.D.Power, the 2024 Toyota RAV4 has a reliability rating of 76 out of 100. This score is average. Anything between 70 and 80 is average, while scores between 81 and 90 are above average.
The 2024 Hyundai CR-V earned an 80, the 2024 Mazda CX-5 has an 82, and the 2024 Subaru Forester got an 84.
So, it’s lagging behind a few key rivals. Also, the 2022 RAV4 earned an 80, so why has the ranking dropped by four points?
J.D.Power provides a reliability ranking based on owner feedback. Surveys are sent to owners allowing them to share the trouble they faced from the paint, electronics, transmission, engine, and more.
On CarComplaints, the 2019 model has the most complaints. The 2023 model only has 23 complaints, most of which are for miscellaneous issues such as the AC malfunctioning, the infotainment screen glitching, and grabby brakes.
Also, the 2022 and 2023 models only have one recall related to improper airbag deployment. However, the RAV4 Hybrid did have a widespread fuel tank issue that only allowed owners to get about seven gallons of gas at a time.
The 2021 model has 384 complaints and the biggest issues are related to the electrical system and fuel system.
How many miles will the RAV4 last?
The average Toyota RAV4 model is expected to make it between 200,000 to 250,000 miles. Some models make it past 300,000 miles with regular care and proper maintenance. A few models have made it to 400,000 miles.
If you drive an average of 15,000 miles per year, then you could get between 14 to 20 years of service on the road.
The average annual maintenance cost for the RAV4 is about $429. This is below the average yearly maintenance cost of $521 for compact SUVs.
