Welcome back to another battle of the trucks. Both the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado are rocking fresh redesigns. While the 2024 Chevy Colorado is winning tons of awards, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma fights back with a few advantages to consider.
2024 Toyota Tacoma vs. 2024 Chevy Colorado
The first advantage that sets the 2024 Toyota Tacoma ahead of the 2024 Chevy Colorado includes available engine options.
The Tacoma starts with a standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 228 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. On higher trim levels, this engine cranks out 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque.
Then the Tacoma Hybrid pairs the same engine with an electric motor and a battery pack to generate 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. We’re still waiting for official EPA ratings about the fuel economy, but in unofficial tests, the gas-powred engine is getting about 25 mpg.
With the 2024 Colorado, you get a standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 237 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. On higher trim levels, it provides 310 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. It gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 25 mpg on the highway.
While the Colorado has more standard power, the Tacoma has more power overall and more engine options. Plus, it might be more fuel-efficient.
The second Tacoma advantage includes safety. The Tacoma features Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with lane-centering assist, traffic sign recognition, and Proactive driving assist.
Plus, the new automatic emergency braking system with pedestrian detection has new sensors and motorcyclist detection. The lane departure warning system has steering assist and enhanced boundary destination. Also, the Tacoma gets full-speed adaptive cruise control.
The Colorado has standard automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and lane departure mitigation.
The available blind-spot warning system has steering assist, and the rear cross-traffic alert includes pedestrian detection. Adaptive cruise control is also available.
While the Tacoma has more standard safety features and smarter tech, we’re waiting for the official crash ratings to come out.
Also, the third advantage that the Tacoma provides is more custom options. For example, it has an available six-speed manual transmission with a clutch start cancel feature.
The Tacoma is available as a two-door truck, you can have the rear seat removed to save money, and it has a six-foot bed available. The Colorado comes in one size with one bed length.
But the Colorado has a nicer cabin with upscale materials, a smoother ride, and can tow more than the Tacoma.
