2024 Toyota Tacoma Leaked: Here It Is Before You’re Supposed to See It
While Toyota intends for you to see the long-anticipated 2024 Tacoma, the internet has different plans. Nosy Taco enthusiasts poked around Toyota’s website and found this image of a white 2024 Tacoma hidden in the weeds. What we see is a new Tacoma with a lot of the same design details as its larger Tundra full-size pickup sibling.
Where is the 2024 Tacoma image leak from?
The Taco image first popped up on the Tacoma4g forum. Co-owner Doug Liu told Automotive News the image discovery happened “by sleuthing on the Toyota website and matching up the hosting domain.” Toyota’s response to the unwelcome reveal to Automotive News is, “We are excited to see the enthusiasm around the new Tacoma and we are looking forward to the official reveal on May 19th.”
Bursting Toyota’s Tacoma reveal bubble probably won’t diminish the official May 19 debut. The Tacoma is the best-selling midsize pickup truck in the U.S. And after nine years of the third-generation Tacoma, enthusiasts anxiously await the debut of a new version.
How close is the 2024 Tacoma design to the Toyota Tundra?
This new Taco will use the also new F1 global platform, so it retains its body-on-frame architecture. Sharing with the full-size Tundra pickup and Sequoia SUV is the hybrid i-Force Max engine. The standard powertrain is a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder. It comes with either an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
From the leaked image we see a harder-edged styling from that of the Tundra. While featuring the same prominent intakes under the headlights, the grille is minimized compared to the Tundra. But that squatter proportion is in keeping with past Taco versions.
What we don’t know is which Tacoma trim we’re looking at. Is it a Trailhunter or a TRD Pro? Is the shorter bed any hint? We’d say it is a TRD Pro, but where are the graphics we expect to see on new TRD versions? All questions will be answered on May 19th.
How did internet sleuths find the image?
All of the hard design details give it a much more aggressive look. Even the hood has added design details and a small scoop to boot. And the undercut at the bottom corners of the fascia is an interesting feature.
As for the leak itself, Liu said, “ One of our users found the image by taking the URL from previous Toyota images and changing the path and file names before landing on the image of the next-gen Taco in all its glory.” Good tips for future curious sleuths not patient enough to wait around for the manufacturers to show us their latest wares.
