The 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR Could Be the Best Work Truck
Finally, the wait for the new Toyota Tacoma is over, and you don’t have to drool over the top-spec trim for bells and whistles to brag about. Each trim has unique traits to offer, and the 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR might be the best new work truck.
Is the 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR a good work truck?
It’s a little early to tell, but a few clues from the recent debut suggest that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR could be the best new work truck. Unfortunately, Toyota hasn’t released official pricing or opened up the order books yet.
But based on images and information about each trim, we can determine that the Tacoma SR keeps things basic, like a standard work truck. The 2024 Ford Ranger went in a different direction.
The entry-level Ranger includes tons of standard tech and convenience features. It doesn’t even have steel wheels and could start around $32,000. But the basic 2024 Tacoma might start around $28,000, providing a more affordable option.
Plus, the SR trim is available with the six-speed manual transmission, so as a work truck, it will offer better control for off-roading and a better fuel economy.
What comes with the 2024 Tacoma SR?
The official specs for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma haven’t been released, but it is available as a two-door truck. The two-door cab configuration will probably be cheaper than the optional four-door double cab or crew cab model.
Images of the SR show the four-door model with basic amenities such as white paint with a black plastic grille, bumper trim, door mirrors, and door handles. MotorTrend noted that it rides on commercial-grade 17-inch steel wheels with tiny circles around the circumference.
Clues suggest that lower trims will ride on a leaf-spring rear suspension instead of the new coil spring, multi-link setup on higher trims. We will have to get behind the wheel to see how this difference impacts the ride quality.
We aren’t sure about the interior features, but you can save some cash with the Utility package that removes the rear seats and a few other features. It’s safe to assume that it will feature cloth upholstery and basic tech.
The standard 2024 Tacoma engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 228 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. It can tow up to 6,500 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,709 lbs. Upgrade to the TRD Off-Road trim to tow up to 8,209 lbs.
What comes standard with the 2024 Tacoma?
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR may have tons of standard tech, like the 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster, an 8.0-inch infotainment display, LED exterior lighting, and proximity keyless entry. Maybe it will have a push-button start too.
With the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 system, you get automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Best of all, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard to truly bring this basic work truck to the modern age of trucks.
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma will go on sale a little later this summer to reach dealerships by the end of the year. Stay tuned for the latest updates about pricing and standard features, but we have a feeling that the Tacoma SR will be the best work truck.
