The 2025 Ram 1500 REV Hopes to Dethrone the Ford F-150 Lightning
In the world of electric trucks, Ram is far from being the first to get its product on the market. But the 2025 Ram 1500 REV looks like it may be worth the wait. It also appears to have its sites set squarely on the Ford F-150 Lightning. Does it have what it takes to beat out the Blue Oval?
Does Ram have an electric truck?
In recent years, a Ram electric truck has been rumored, and it’s finally here. Well, sort of here; you can’t actually go to a dealership and get this pickup. In fact, reservations for the Ram 1500 REV are already full, despite Ram only recently dropping more information about its foray into the EV market.
Although the production model does not really resemble the all-electric concept truck that Ram previewed earlier in the year, it seems to have plenty of capability.
Ram dropped a Lightning-fighting truck
The Detroit Big Three have or are introducing electric trucks. There is the Ford F-150 Lightning, Ram 1500 REV, and Chevy Silverado EV. The Ford Lightning is the first electric truck to hit the market from a mainstream brand. That said, the 2025 Ram 1500 REV might give it a run for its money.
The Ram EV can make up to 654 horsepower and offers 620 pound-foot of torque. Even better is its available 500-mile range. All of those numbers happen to beat out the Ford F-150 Lightning. But the brand does have yet to reveal an official MSRP for its electric pickup.
Are people buying electric trucks?
According to a survey conducted by CarGurus, over 40% of pickup truck owners are considering an electric truck in the next 10 years. Currently, it seems like brands such as Ford can’t keep up with the demand for electric trucks. The Ford F-150 Lightning has been sold out for some time, despite facing some pretty serious price increases since its introduction.
In the case of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV, it looks like reservations are already full. And although that is not necessarily an indicator of how well that EV will sell, it does show that folks are interested in battery-powered trucks.
Ford and Ram are not the only ones getting in on the electric truck action. Chevy reportedly has plans for a Silverado EV, although we do not have all the details about it yet.
When can you get a 2025 Ram 1500 REV?
Ram announced the production of the 1500 REV earlier this year, and shipping is expected to start in Q4 of 2024. But with supply chain issues still being a thorn in the side of truck manufacturers, it is entirely possible that production could be delayed.
Additionally, it would not be surprising to see Ram facing the same problems that Ford has with the F-150 Lightning. At this point, it feels almost impossible to buy Ford’s electric truck. Hopefully, electric trucks will become easier to get in the future.
