The 2025 Ram REV Means Serious Trouble for the F-150 Lightning
When we watched the Ram Rev debut at the New York Auto Show, it didn’t just drop. It dropped bombs! Rivals like the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Chevy Silverado EV have serious competition on the horizon. Check out what’s coming with the 2025 Ram 1500 REV.
How much range does the 2025 Ram 1500 REV have?
The standard 2025 Ram 1500 REV with the 168-kWh battery back is expected to provide a targeted range of 350 miles on a single charge. The standard-range 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning kicks off with a 98-kWh battery pack and an EPA-estimated 230-mile range.
If you upgrade to the optional 229-kWh battery back, the Ram REV has the potential to provide a 500-mile range. The extended-range F-150 Lightning provides an EPA-estimated 320 miles of range with the 131-kWh battery pack.
But Ram shared that the Ram REV figures haven’t been officially tested by the EPA. The electric Ram could do a little better or worse when it comes out. The figures are currently based on trucks without a load, so we will see how much passengers and cargo impact its scores.
How much can the Ram REV tow?
The 2025 Ram 1500 REV is targeting a 14,000 lb max towing capacity with the ability to carry a payload of up to 2,700 lbs. The F-150 Lightning can carry a payload of up to 2,235 lbs.
But the F-150 Lightning has already demonstrated that towing can rapidly drain the batteries. The Ford F-150 Lightning can tow between 7,700 to 10,000 lbs depending on which model you choose.
We will have to tow with the Ram Rev to believe it. Each model will have a dual-motor setup with AWD. Reportedly, it can provide up to 654 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque. It targets the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.
The standard F-150 Lightning cranks out 452 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. The extended-range model has 580 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds.
Also, the Ram REV is expected to be heftier than the Lightning. It has a larger battery pack, four-wheel drive, four full doors, and an independent rear suspension. It’s built on the STLA platform too.
The Ram REV may have an adjustable air suspension to raise and lower the truck as needed to improve aerodynamics on the highway and provide more ground clearance for off-roading. The Lightning has an automatically lowering air dam to reduce drag.
The Ram EV truck also claims to have a rapid charging ability. With the ability to charge at 350 kW, it can replenish about 110 miles of range in 10 minutes. The F-150 Lightning recharged the battery from about 15 to 80 percent in roughly 45 minutes.
How much space is the Ram 1500 REV frunk?
The 2025 Ram 1500 REV has 15 cubic feet of storage space in the frunk. The Ford F-150 Lightning provides 14.1 cubes. Both trucks have a lockable, weatherproof frunk with available plugs to power devices.
But the Ram REV also has a RamBox on each side of the truck bed to provide even more accessible storage space. The boxes are deep, weatherproof, and can be locked. Like the F-150 Lightning, the truck can be used as a generator to power work sites.
It will have a hands-free driving assist system as well. We still need to learn more about the Ram REV tech and put it to the test. However, it either matches or outperforms the Ford F-150 Lightning in multiple ways. Plus, reservations reopened, so you haven’t missed your chance to get one.
