Sorry, your waiting time for a popular rugged SUV just got longer. The Toyota 4Runner was supposed to come out this fall, but it might not arrive until 2025. See why the 2024 Toyota 4Runner has a delay.

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner has a delay

It’s only been 15 years since the last generation of the Toyota 4Runner launched, so what’s the problem with some extra waiting time?

Initially. The 2025 Toyota 4Runner was expected to reach dealerships by the fall of 2024. However, life happens.

The launch of the new 4Runner is being pushed back due to supply constraints. The parts shortage is pushing the launch back until 2025. The key parts are shared with other popular vehicles.

The 4Runner is built at the Tahara plant in Japan, where other SUVs are produced. Models like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus GX are in high demand. Some of the 4Runner’s parts could be going to its sibling models.

It’s unclear which parts are facing a shortage, but it is clear that other, more expensive vehicles are being put ahead of the 4Runner.

I was ready to learn more about the 4Runner, but at least some information has been released. For example, it has a standard turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque.

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid uses the same 2.4 engine but pairs it with an electric motor and a battery pack to generate 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.

Both of these engines are shared with the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The Tacoma Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway.

The new 4runner is built on the TNGA-F platform, like the new Tacoma and they both have a new Trailhunter trim, which is built for overlanding.

Plus, the 4Runner stays true to its roots with classic features such as the standard power rear window and available power liftgate.

A few tech upgrades include a 14.0-inch touchscreen, standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, updated cameras, heated second-row seats, a head-up display, a digital key, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Stay tuned for production updates!
