There’s a lot on the line. The Toyota 4Runner can’t be messed up! It’s a three-row off-roading staple and icon. So, let’s see how Toyota did with the new generation. Check out the 2025 Toyota 4Runner. Spoiler alert: It has a lot in common with the Tacoma.

What’s new with the 2025 Toyota 4Runner?

A little of everything is new with the 2025 Toyota 4Runner as it enters its sixth generation with over 40 years of rugged history to carry on its axles. The last major redesign was back in 2010, so welcome it to modern times.

First, let’s go over the modern look. The grille and LED headlights match the Tacoma’s and it maintains its classic boxy shape with the addition of new sleek lines. The rear end is a modern take on the classic style and the rear window still rolls down.

Now let’s talk power, baby. The standard i-FORCE engine is a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 278 hp and 326 lb-ft of torque.

Upgrade to the i-FORCE MAX to pair the 2.0-liter engine with a 1.87 kWh battery pack, and an electric motor to generate 317 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. It’s the first 4Runner hybrid, and these options are both available with the Tacoma.

As for 2025 4Runner trims, there’s an option for everyone. Literally, there are nine trims, including the:

  • 4Runner SR5
  • 4Runner TRD Sport
  • 4Runner TRD Sport Premium
  • 4Runner Limited
  • 4Runner TRD Off-Road
  • 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium
  • 4Runner Trailhunter
  • 4Runner Premium

The Tacoma has six trims, including a work truck, the two-door PreRunner, and the Limited. The Tacoma also has an Overlanding Trailhunter trim.

This time around, the third row is optional. Plus, updated tech includes a Digital Key, a faster wireless charging pad, a head-up display, an available 14.0-inch infotainment system, and an available 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

New off-roading features include 2WD, part-time time 4WD, full-time 4WD, a 9.2-inch ground clearance, an available stabilizer bar disconnect, an available multi-terrain monitor, 2.5-inch forged shocks with piggyback reservoirs, and an electronic two-speed transfer case.
