Are your windshield wipers working? They should be, but if you drive the Hyundai Palisade, then they might need to be replaced. Plus, we hope your SUV isn’t on fire. The Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade both could spark flames. See if your vehicle is at risk.

Kia Telluride and Palisade recall due to fire risks

There is a significant Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade recall due to a fire risk. This recall involves over 245,000 Palisade models and 36,000 Kia Telluride models from 2020 – 2022. The automakers are aware of 25 fires related to this issue in the United States and Canada, but no crashes or injuries. 

Hyundai and Kia shared that moisture may accumulate in the circuit board of the tow hitch wiring, causing a short that could lead to a fire. 

Currently, there isn’t a solution to this issue. However, dealers will inspect the wiring and remove a fuse as a temporary fix. Kia and Hyundai are currently investigating the problem to create a plan. 

The affected vehicles will not be sold until repairs can be made. You don’t have to return to the same place where you purchased your Hyundai Palisade or Kia Telluride for service. A local dealership will be fine. 

2020 – 2021 Hyundai Palisade recall due to wiper failure 

Over 120,000 Hyundai Palisade models are being recalled due to failing windshield wipers. The root cause seems to be related to failing wiper motors, which lead to intermittent operation or total failure. 

To make matters worse, Hyundai isn’t exactly sure what the problem is or how to address it. But the issue seems to be limited to vehicles built through February 2021. 

Hyundai is still investigating the problem, but it could be related to the increased load placed on the wipers due to the accumulation of ice and snow. 

In the defect report sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Hyundai shared that the cause is still under investigation. But it suspects that a sudden increase in wiper load could lead to circuit breaker actuation, resulting in temporary operation. 

But the wiper operation resumes after the circuit breaker resets and the windshield is cleared from obstruction. 

What to do if your Palisade or Telluride is at risk

There isn’t an official remedy for the Hyundai Palisades’ wipers, but Hyundai is working on a plan. On a positive note, models manufactured after February 21 don’t seem to have this problem. You can enter your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (V.I.N) here to see if your vehicle is at risk. 

According to AutoBlog, Hyundai may retrofit motors from later 2021 and 2022 vehicles to older models. However, the changes between model years could make this incredibly difficult or even impossible. 

Hyundai will hopefully have a solution for the wipers before they notify dealerships and owners in October. Letters will be sent out beginning on October 14.
