We recently drove the 2022 Honda Passport and enjoyed its smooth driving characteristics and spacious cabin. However, we have also experienced the Subaru Forester and have an affinity for its rugged off-road capabilities and eccentric styling. And while both two-row SUVs offer buyers the same type of amenities, here are three advantages that we found the Passport has over the Forester.

1. The 2022 Honda Passport has more passenger volume

If you were to put the 2022 Honda Passport and Subaru Forester next to each other, it would be easy to see that the Honda is bigger. But how much larger is it on the inside? According to The Car Connection, the Passport boasts 114.9 cubic feet of space, while the Forester has 111 cubic feet. That may not sound like a huge advantage, but consider that the Honda has more leg, head, and shoulder room in both of its rows, which is where that increase in space counts the most.

That large amount of space extends to the car’s cargo area as well as the Passport has 50.5 cubic feet of cargo space compared to the Forester’s 28.9 cubic feet.

2. The Passport can tow more than the Forester

Buyers that need to tow should pick the Honda Passport over the Subaru Forester. The Passport’s larger size and more potent engine allow it to tow a maximum of 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. On the other hand, the Subaru Forester can only tow up to 1,500 pounds, which is decent, but not a lot for an SUV.

3. The Honda Passport has a lot more power than the Subaru Forester

Remember when we said the Honda Passport has more power than the Subaru Forester? Its power advantage comes in the form of a 3.5-liter engine that puts out 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. We recently tested the Honda Passport TrailSport and noted that its engine provided a smooth operation and a good amount of power for getting onto the freeway and merging into traffic.

We’re sure it comes in handy when going over the rough stuff on off-road trails as well. On the other end of the spectrum, the Subaru Forester is powered by a weaker 2.5-liter flat-four engine that produces 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. It’s not a bad engine, but it leaves much to be desired when it comes to accelerating the car to highway speeds.

The Honda Passport has a few advantages over the Subaru Forester

Both of these two-row SUVs offer buyers a lot of capability and utility for a fair price. Speaking of which, if you’re looking to spend less than $40,000, the 2022 Subaru Forester is your best pick because it starts at only $25,895.

However, if you want a two-row SUV that can more comfortably fit up to five passengers and all of their stuff, along with the ability to two, then the 2022 Honda Passport is the better way to go. Just be prepared to spend around $41,000 for the base EX-L trim level.
